Button Colors - Ultimarc Buttons
« on: May 23, 2004, 01:07:41 am »
Does someone have an image of the actual colors of Happs buttons or Ultimarc buttons?  Also, all I've read about are Happs buttons.  Has anyone used Ultimarc's, and if so, was there a difference or some reason to recommend one over the other?

Happ's and Ultimarc's buttons are made by the same company:

There are some pictures of their buttons on their website.

Oh they are the same? I thought I read in another thread that the happ buttons took less force to depress. That might just be the switches though.

I think I was reading something similar, but I thought it referred to the joysticks.  I knew they carried joys, but I didn't know about buttons, and the button they show as an example is along the lines of the color I am looking for, that's why I ask about colors for both.

Bob Roberts has a pic of all the Happ pushbuttons on his site.  I'm not going to link directly to the pic, but it's easy to find on his parts page.  Click the link that says buttons and you're there.

You can probably order from them, but there's probably a minimum order that is several thousands.

yeah, didn't someone here consider buying some buttons straight from IL and the min order was something like 5000 buttons??  I seem to remember something like that.

I have some ultimarc buttons. Generally they the same. The switches might be a bit different, but not noticeable during gameplay  if they are placed side by side in the same cab.

Ultimarc now use Cherry microswitches, which I'm pretty sure Happ also use.  I think U'marc used to use Honeywell microswitches, which I like (I also like the Cherry's), but the two have quite a different feel.

Unless something has changed lately, Ultimarc switches require .25" female quick disconnects, while Happs require .187"

I personally like this because it means the .25" QDs I can get in the autoparts aisle of my local WhateverMart fit perfectly.  The .187" ones are a bit trickier to acquire at 2 a.m.

I just ordered some Ultimarc buttons, and since I've used tons of Happ buttons over the past couple of years I'll be able to see any differences right away.  They should be here in a day or two, I'll post back when they arrive. (I hope they are the same since they are going in a machine with some Happ buttons I had kicking around!)

If you're thinking of what I'm thinking of, that was some Chinese? (Taiwanese?) company selling convex buttons.

I think it's possible to order directly from them, but they are European only, so it's difficult from the states, and I think they only sell to businesses (so you have to work for your own small arcade company).

I think Grasshopper bought from them before, could be wrong, though.

Colors are the same, Ultimarc is smaller with a much stiffer microswitch, oh and that microswitch (still a cherry) has the crazy big tabs on it that fit the minipac wiring harness.

*Edit: Smaller in height, not width, they are identical looking at them from the top.
