Best Game I've Never Played?
« on: April 10, 2004, 07:54:35 pm »
What is the best game, that odds are good, I've never played. A rare find that many do not know about, but is your little treasure? Your favorite game that others often miss? Mine would be twin tigers, a fun game that reminds me of my youth. Whats yours?

One game that I find to be pretty cool is Asterix.  In most ways it's your every day side-scrolling beat em up, but it's pretty funny.

For something that's out of the box, and something completly different... you should try Cameltry.  I have no idea what it has to do with camels, but it's a good game none the less.  I'd suggest a spinner for it though.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Some of MY favorites that I have rarely seen are "Neo Drift Out" ( a fun driving game), "Waku Waku" (a strange fighting game), and anything in the "Pang!" series (even those I have seen these games plenty, people forget them).

Have you played these games? "Rival Schools" is another fighting game that I find enjoyable, but I do not think it is that rare.

Cameltry.

It's a maze game where you control a ball inside the maze by rotating the entire maze around the ball with your spinner.

Good thread! Seen some nice suggestions.

A game that I found pretty simple yet addictive is Puzz Loop. Shoot colored balls to form at least 3 in a row. Bejeweled is also a bit similar to this.

BTW, for me Metal Slug and Smash TV were games I had never heard of (before I started using Mame) either. But then I'm more of a pre 90's player.

I've been taking a liking to Krull lately.  Dual joystick game like Robotron and Splat!.  Different missions per level, reminds me a little of Tron in some weird way.  It's not a game I would own, but fun to play on occasion.

I second that.  It's a cool game.

I like a game called Shadow Land.  It's the kind of arcade game I could picture sitting under a dim, yellow lamp in the smoky back corner of a China-town restaurant.  You probably haven't played it.

The Glob.

It's a 2d arcade game where you're trying to collect various fruits (or whatever) by avoiding enemies by using your glob powers to stick to the ceiling when they come close to you.

I stumbled on it once, thought it was cheezy, laughed at it, then ended up playing it for like 3 hours.

Go figure?

I'd have to say B. Rap Boys!  It's the sequal to DJ Boy and it's never been emulated (unfortunately :() due to a complex sound system.  This game is hilarious though and really fun to play.

I know I could find out if I looked, but has DJ Boy been emulated anywhere?  I remember that game so well and Wolfman Jack came to a car show in my hometown at the same time that game was in the local arcade so all of the kids thought it was especially cool.

Cameltry is a really great game.  I'd recommend it as well.

though, for the "best game" i'd have to say Super Puzzle Fighter.  I had never even heard of this game before i built my cabinet, but now it gets more play than most of my other games combined.  Uo Poko is another one that most Americans have never heard of, but that's addictingly fun.

its an odd game but i find it fun. it has elements of some old school games like donkey kong, pac-man and dig-dug. after about the 4th level you get to beat up micheal jackson.

Asteroids.

There really was no other game made that had the simple appeal of blowing stuff up like asteroids.  It was the first video game I ever put a quarter in.

After I built mame cabs, the only one I play really is Asteroids.

How can we set up an easier way to let everybody rate games as they play them (or when they finish) and upload them to the internet. Then, the frontends can download the data as another items do sort by.

Also, the frontends should let you (and your friends) rate your own games so you can then sort by that (I guess you can use the # of times played feature, but that's a bit different).

Logic Pro 1 and 2. Even though it's in Japanese it's a very additive game. Sort of along the lines of Mario Picross if anyone remembers that Gameboy game or an upgraded Mindsweeper. I'll explain it if you want to give it a shot.

A grid is set up with a picture underneath. Along the rows there are a set of numbers which tell you the continually of the picture. Example 345 this means somewhere within the row there are 3 spots within that row that you must figure out . A total number of 12 "pixels" should be applied but only with gaps between. In other words:

XXXXXX   XXXXX    X     XX

            ^3         ^4    ^5  Pixels(in above XXXX diagram)

Every time you get in wrong you lose time. A few powerups help you clear more area. Eventually a picture will form and you can work yourself around the grid better because it sort of like a crossword puzzle. I love these games and spend hours on them. Turn the timer down in the options or DIP switch area for better gameplay (less frantic). Interesting enough these are 2 of the 5 games I can finish with one quarter. The other 3 being (B lack Tiger, Ghoul's n Ghost's, and Ghost's n Goblin's)

Cybattler
http://www.classicgaming.com/rotw/cybattler/  my review I did in 2001, and the rom link doesn't work so don't worry about a rom link, cause it don't work!

Guwange, Donpachi, Dodonpachi, G.Darius, any Darius game for that matter, Giga Wing 2, Mars Matrix, Black Tiger - arcade

Metal Storm, River City Ransom, Sprint - NES   (YOU MUST PLAY METAL STORM)

Powerball, Beyond Oasis, Gunstar Heroes, Contra Hard Corps, Musha - Genesis

lots of gameboy advance games you need to play, including Metroid Zero Mission and Casltevania Aria of Sorrow.  The new River City Ransom EX also kicks ass.

so many games, so few time!
