New Here, Need Help. Modded OG Xbox Wanting to Put In Cabinet
« on: January 08, 2023, 01:29:36 am »
Hello all,

I am new here and stumbled upon this site doing research of how to add my OG Modded Xbox to a gaming cabinet. I dont wanna use the xbox controllers, but the joystick and buttons on the cabinet obviously. Is this easy to do, where do I begin, basically how do I do it? I have ten thousands of games all mapped out to the xbox controllers. Is there joysticks and buttons I can just plug them into, or have to soder them, or what? Whats my best option here to get this to work. Thank you for your help and time

There are several ways to connect arcade-style controls to an XBox.

Approach #1:
Do a gamepad hack.

This can be a bit difficult if you aren't very good at soldering.

Haruman offers padhacks in his thread here.

Approach #2:
Use an Arduino.
- You'll need a USB to XBox adapter cable since the Arduino has a USB connector.
- There are some breakout boards that will make the soldering (if any) easier.
-- With a breakout board like one of these, you only need to solder several rows of pins instead of many individual wires.
-- Many Arduino Micros come with pins already soldered.

- You'll need to load a firmware on the Arduino that sends the control data in a format that the XBox will recognize.

XBOXPadMicro

KADE MiniArcade 2.0
- This firmware is more flexible than XBOXPadMicro, but requires some configuration.  Details are in the User Guide.

I’m using 4 Minimus AVRs in my cabinet.  I have a hidden toggle switch that flips the player 1 joystick from digital to analogue mode, for those few cabinet friendly games that don’t use the d pad.

Works great.  The power button is permanently turned on and I use a smart strip with my flat screen as the control for the strip.
