USB Switch
« on: September 05, 2021, 10:42:18 pm »
Hey again
I've done some planning and now I've got most of my multi console switching figured out (By using a monitor with 3 inputs that carry audio and video and use ControlMyMonitor to switch between them).

The last hurdle is figuring out how to split my player 1 and 2 arcade controls between the 3 consoles and be able to switch what console the controls are sending information to by pressing a button etc..
I've had a look at some KVM boxes and while I'm sure they'd work switching between PCs, im not sure if it would work for my consoles as I assume its more that a simple USB passthrough. Can anyone confirm or deny if a USB switch box works on a PS3. I'm specifically looking for a USB switch that can take one input and split between 3 devices.

Thanks again

As devices are powered separately you will not really want to cross the grounds , You will need to find a truly physical switch, A lot of the USB switchers use either a key combination pressed on PC to switch or some fancy electronics and touch buttons.

This one should do what you want to do, though I accept no responsibility if fails to work..

The PC and PS3 are the same input.  The DC will need an isolation circuit as it will trip the existing encoder.  This is what I was asking PL1 before we were rudely interrupted.

I linked in the other thread to an article about another DC solution with an arduino.  I bought a clone off Amazon for $10 that uses the Kade firmware.  You will need to know how to use soldering iron.  Good luck.
