Found one hell of a restoration challenge.

Maybe someone like MikeA or Jennifer will step up?  ;D

I do have a soft spot in my heart for Sega, and with such a low build number that could be a awesome build challenge, Perhaps even easy compared to the fire damaged trauma I usually build...Unfortunately I won't ever know that love.😔

I need to make me a nice wire spool setup like that.   And buy more spools of wire.   It took me 20 years but other than some speaker wire I think I'm finally through all of mine.

This is really nice.  Wow.

Thanks man.  I forgot to update the last post on it. It's fully complete now, barring a couple small things like getting the original wheels installed.  I've updated the thread with it's final post.

That workshop tho  :applaud:

Mike's basement workshop thread has inspired me to shovel out my basement and convert it from a lame attempt at being a hoarder into a usable workspace.
Did you know I had 2 13" CRT TV's down there?
I didn't.

Yeah, that's how bad it is.

Thank you Mike.
I notice you like the Bourban.
I'm more of an Irish Whiskey guy myself.

P.S. I was just trolling when i suggested you guys team up just in case nobody got that.

I totally missed it - I never think to look anywhere else except Project Announcements.  It came out great and I always get jealous when I see people doing real restoration work like fixing a monitor or something way beyond my skill set.

First, I don't subscribe to the oppression of underwear. Commando is the only way to fly.

Second, welders are fine and all, if I had any application for them I would easily jump into doing that work. but they're big blunt tools for big blunt jobs. yeah yeah, lots of flame and heat, that's cool and all. But I like the precision and skill required for SMD rework.  You need the testicular fortitude and a steady hand for this kinda stuff.

Behold! Konami 60pin QFP transplant from an busted X-men salvage board to a Vendetta PCB, that Mike now owns.

Removed from Xmen:

Clean, no damage removal of Vendetta's QFP:

Clean transplant. Soldered 60x .4 pitch pins:

Done so clean you can't even tell there was reworking:

Sprites look great, no graphic issues whatsoever:

My favorite part was when people were posting proof of their arcade awesomeness. The testosterone was palpable!

Back on target - it's a shame anytime a cabinet is left in the elements to die. It's crazy how 30-40 years ago, arcade cabinets were rarely seen outside of an arcade. 20 years ago, they could be found easily by folks who no longer wanted them in their house. I've had several donor cabinets over the years. Now, the market has increased and free cabinets are rare to never. Are there any abandoned stashes lefT?

Search on FB market market place or craigs list results in primarily arcade 1up cabs, multicabs and things like this for $1100

However every once in a while something like a beat up working pacman shows up for $600.

Empty cabs are still common here in the Chicagoland area.
You can get them for less than 100 bucks if you have cash in hand.

I've read this thread everyday and typed up a response and then deleted it because I'd probably get banned.  I've met several of these guys in person MikeA, yotsuya, Opt2not, Ond, and several others.  They were all awesome folks.  As soon as I saw Mike was backing away from the forum last year I reached out to get his contact info so I've stayed in touch.  He helped me out with an item I needed laser cut.  I know what type of person he is and I will be on team Mike when he gets attacked.

Beginning cleanup in aisle 11.

Please, pretty please, keep disputes civil and/or off the forum? It gets harder and harder to do this some days  :(

Mike, glad to see you here.

Thread will unlock when I get done pruning.

OK thread pruned of people fighting, hopefully I got them all, and if I pruned one of yours that wasn't you picking a fight, due apologies that it got caught up in the collateral damage, I used an axe instead of a scalpel.

Jennifer, you threw the first punch in this thread, don't please.

Mike, holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, now I'm embarrassed to ever show pictures of my setup, damn. Also, will you come fix my Star Wars please?

Arcade porn pix left because I like arcade porn pix.

ahh nice and clean.  Gotta say that's some very nice soldering work by opt2not.  It takes a very steady hand to do fine work like that.  Can't really compare soldering to welding, two completely different skills.  It's something I want to learn this year (welding) it opens a lot of creative doors in various D.I.Y. areas.

That was clean. Until you posted that I forgot this was the one you worked on. I didn't notice the work while I was fixing the sound problem.

You can kick someone while they’re on the ground in Vendetta.  It’s an excellent allegory for life.
