joystick no up / down
« on: February 06, 2021, 01:44:52 pm »
I have a working joystick (tested with antimicro) but MAME doesn't recognize up / down, but recognizes left / right. Any ideas what would cause this?
Just tested it on another PC, same issue.....Antimicro sees left / right as axis one, no problems there.  Antimicro sees up / down as axis 2, MAME is not seeing this...
Also, works in Windows settings...Hmmm.....

left / right as axis one
Wait, is this an analog (potentiometer) joystick with 1 input per axis in MAME or a microswitch joystick with 2 inputs per axis in MAME?

In what MAME game and to which inputs are you trying to map Up and Down?
- For example, Donkey Kong: P1 Up and P1 Down

I've tried Ms. Pacman and Pacman with same results

Are you saying that "Up" (the default setting) is not mapped to the "P1 Up" input and you're unable to remap the input or are you saying that pressing up --straight up, not an accidental diagonal-- on the joystick is not registering during gameplay?

Yeah, just mentioning a multimeter in Spisi's thread scared the gremlins out of his system.   :lol

When all else fail....grab the multimeter  ;D I think I had been messing with the mame.ini file when it comes to the joystick mapping, that was most likely the culprit
