  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Formula Retro Racing
« on: May 15, 2020, 06:37:17 am »
Another retro virtua racing clone game, XBOX, PC, PS4:

https://repixel8.com/formula-retro-racing/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1239660/Formula_Retro_Racing/

It's $12.99 for PC, and $11.99 on xbox one.

I tried it out for a few hours.

It's pretty basic, only options are sound and music levels.

There are 8 tracks, which you play to unlock.
3 levels for each course. Easy, Medium and Hard.

Besides arcade mode, there is eliminator mode, where you
drive laps, and you get points for each lap you are in the top 10.
The game progressively gets harder.

Graphics are pretty solid, sound effects are OK.

Driving seems floaty, but there is drafting, and AI is pretty much like SEGA's.
There are leaderboards for laptimes, and races.

Worth it for the price.

The biggest plus and also my biggest complain is the graphics.
Some tracks (like Forest) look awesome - Some others have a totaly flat shaded road, which totaly kills any sense of speed.

A minor nitpick is the sound - cruisin at a constant 295 km/h the engine whine gets pretty anoying over time.

Another complain are the physics - I have several situation where the "nose" of my car got stuck in the ground, and my car coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road.
Same goes for touching the walls - sometimes I get bounced off, other times my car suddenly stays dead on the spot.

Other than that... Well...
I unlocked all 8 tracks in about 90 minutes, and as there is no multiplayer (aside from the online leaderboard) there is no real motivation to keep playing the game.
I do all that stuff even without a Joystick ;)

yes, that effect of lowering the nose of the car only has to be in the really difficult curves that you come with a lot of speed, creating in itself an effect with the naked eye of FAIR / PLAY

Thanks for sharing. Is there full wheel/pedal support and force feedback?

It DOES support any kind of input device, however you cannot remap any inputs as of now.
