How do I upgrade?
« on: February 29, 2020, 07:39:57 pm »
I have a jamma board, a W7 pc with 4 gigs and 2  drives.
Its all working but sluggish so question is what do people use in cabs from 2012?

I am a little confused.

By Jamma board do you mean your PC is connected via a Jpac or similar to a original Jamma cab?

If so you have a few options.

You can upgrade the PC (most powerful option)

You can get a Pi2jamma and a Pi and use that.

Or you can use a Pandora box or similar.

I put a Pi2jamma in my multi cab, Works great once set up but you cant play newer stuff on it.

Windows 10 v1703 (Creators Update) Enterprise or newer or GroovyArcade are good options.

What is the processor speed? It seems to me that these emulators rely heavily on the processing speed and available RAM and less so on the graphics card. Example - I have two PCs. One has a core duo @ 1.9 ghz the other is an i5 at 2.8 ghz. RAM is equal at 4 gigs. The graphics card in the duo is a 1 gig Raedon HD 6k while the i5 has an older 512 MB Raedon HD 4K card. The i5 however outperforms the duo on most all games. The only ones that they are both sluggish on are 3D games like Tekkan Tag. Now this issue could likely be due to the older graphics cards or low RAM (4 gig is the minimum for running W7 64-bit). Not sure what processor you have.

The only other difference in the PCs is that the i5 is running Windows 10 and the duo is running W7. Both 64-bit. If you decide to upgrade your OS, you can still go from W7 to W10 for free. Just check out the link below or google "upgrade windows 7 to windows 10 for free" and click on the first link.

Well it depends upon the emulator.  Newer emulators (in other words not mame) often need a decent graphics card.  Supermodel, ps3 emulators, dolphin, ect…. they need a fast processor AND hardware acceleration.

I have a MS surfase pro 8 gigs ram, SSD, core i5 but its not you know built for throughput like a desktop.

Im 2 days old in this stuff so I am so lost!

Can any one explain if I move my I7 laptop into the arcade cab, do I have enough audio ins and outs to
supply the cab?  It has a weird audio cable coming out from the PC video card that is  weird both audio and a weird video cable.

Not meaning to change the subject but I had to say something about that cool engine on the left. What is it? (You must not be married to have stuff like that sitting around).
