Always thaw, never chip
« on: September 07, 2019, 11:10:25 am »
Turns out that little freezer box in a mini fridge is the evaporator and has compressed gas in it. Don't chip off ice if you plan on having a functional mini fridge.

Did that to a single-door full size in my first apartment. Hated that thing, so it was unintentional revenge.

We have one at work with a padlock on it, I tell visitors we store human heads in it.  What’s the other unconventional use?

(The human heads are actually kept in 5 gallon buckets in a cabinet behind two badge swipe doors)

I’ve been surprised how many “yeah, that happened to me, too” stories I’ve gotten as I’ve tried to educate people through my mistake.  Still though, $75 and 12 years... can’t complain.  It transitioned to stickers over the rust holes a year or so ago.  So many bottles of beer went through that thing it’s unreal.

Contemplating this as a replacement....

Other illegal ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, which yours is now perfect for. There are other forums on the internet that know how to put an insulated box to use.

Is this related to cooking meth or something?

Anyway, if so, send your “friends” to the Houston landfill to go collect it.

When I worked maint. at a school after college, the number of teachers who killed mini fridges that way.
I stopped lending my screw drivers out because even when I told them "you better not be chipping ice out of the mini fridge with this, you'll break the fridge"

they would lie to me and say they were putting a classroom learning aid together.

I'm working up the nerve to spend $120 on something I don't need, but I think this is the winner...

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Frigidaire-3-3-cu-ft-Freestanding-Mini-Fridge-Silver-Mist/1000788204

No freezer compartment.  Looks decent.  Shelves besides the bottom one are adjustable.  I can get a row of cans down there and then at least 2 shelves of bottles.

I'll get a Lowes $20 off coupon on ebay for $1.50 and do in store pickup.  I went and touched it last night and should be fine.

I did the exact same thing... oops.
