Ultimarc Ultimate I/O Gamepad problems
« on: June 26, 2019, 08:12:31 am »
Okay, so I built my cabinet and have everything installed. I am trying to get the I-Pac Ultimate to show up as a gamepad. I updated the firmware and uninstalled the "composite device" in device manager like it says. The problem is that the firmware says that it is version 1.39 Keyboard only. The website clearly states that 1.3x versions should be gamepad activated. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? The keyboard works great for the record, but I plan on having a lot of modern fighting games on this cabinet and I really need the controller to show up as a gamepad.

I have tried to set the gamepad commands, but they do nothing.

Here is a photo from the software showing the version.

And here is a screenshot from YouTube showing what it should say

Thanks for any help in advance!

I contacted them and they sent me version 1.51 of the firmware and now I have a whole new problem. Even when every switch is set to gamepad it it acts like someone is holding down the "l" key. Nothing else works. In the upper right hand corner it says 1.51 Multi-mode firmware and in the upper lefthand corner now it says Keyboard Mode 1

This is starting to drive me crazy. I may just eat the $100 this card cost me and buy from a different company...anyone have any suggestions?

**EDIT**

I downgraded the firmware to version 1.39 and the l key problem goes away, but I am back to only being able to use it in keyboard mode.

If it doesn't work the way you want it to, send it back.

I may, but I am more concerned with what I am going to replace it with. Other people seem to have no problems with this board, so I am confused with what the issue is.

Just make sure you don't miss your return window if things don't work out. If the vendor isn't working with you, a polite threat to return the product is sometimes the kick in the pants a vendor needs.

I have this exact same setup (for the same reasons you seem to want) and it’s a bit tricky but trust me, I got it working great. First, you have to be on the  1.5x firmware that Andy sent. Once that’s installed, hold the combination of P1 Start + P1 SW 3 for a good 10 seconds to change into XInput Mode. If you have Windows sounds enabled, you’ll hear the standard ‘badunk’ sound for usb device changing. This will make your computer think you have two Xbox gamepads installed. Then you can swap back to Keyboard mode by holding P1 START + P1 SW1. The full documentation can be found here: https://www.ultimarc.com/MultiMode.pdf

The issue with the “I” being stuck down sounds like you have a wiring issue with the P2 SW 5 button, may have wired backwards or it’s stuck down/loose depending on if you have it as NO or NC. I had that happen with this board a while back and it turns out I just sucked at wiring.

I can assure you we dont, and never have, needed a "kick in the pants" to work with any customer as I am sure people on here will confirm.

We dont have a "return window".

Vendors in this hobby have really thin skin. Barking at your potential customers is really unprofessional.

Don't just eat it.  Keep at it.  Andy and Ultimarc have great customer service, you'll get it sorted out.
