Coin Mech not working
« on: November 29, 2018, 11:45:18 am »
Hi,

I have an Arcade with JAMMA and MAME running on a PC ( GroovyArcade) via a J-PAC.
This has run fine for a couple of years.

My coin mech button (i have  switch behind it, dont need to put a coin in) and also the coin mehc LIGHT has stopped working.
For the last few months i had to switch ON/OFF a few times, for the light to come ON. Last week it just stopped turning ON.

Something was failing and ended up failing.  Nothing else has failed.
So i still boot up in GroovyArcade, and can play any game with Joysticks and all buttons working !

I should say that when i say "coin Mech" i am really only talking about the switch behind it. I do not use the coin mechanism.

Do you think my J-PAC is bad ? Only Coin is not working ?
What do you recommend ?
Thank you

Buy a multimeter and watch some youtube videos on basic electrical troubleshooting.

Are you implying that my JAMMA board has a malfunction component, and some random youtube videos are enough for someone read its layout and understand where its gone wrong ? That is quite an assumption, and it wont help me much.

I dont get the 12V in my switch, as even the lamp does not turn on.
So either the J-PAC gone wrong (i hardly believe it) or it seems to be a problem from the JAMMA board itself.
So for Arcade Gurus : do you think this can be visible, as a component failed, or even better a fuse?

Actually Neph gave you good advice... And most likely you will find a bad ground to your switch. (Depending how that's wired of course).

You are the one making assumptions instead of following tried and true basic troubleshooting steps.

I even watch YouTube videos to learn skills I don't even need in the first place.

Just to close this thread,  i found the culprit.

The arcade switching power supply is dead.
Dont know how the J-PAC can work without this, but it does. The only button i am missing is the Coin1 button.
I will replace it with a new one because they are very cheap on fleabay.
