What's your PS2 game's must have in 2017?
« on: November 20, 2017, 08:57:45 am »
Last summer I got everything together to HHD mod my fat PS2. Just had a looked throw the old PS2 post here and got some ideas, they were all a few year old now and thought it's a good time to ask again. I love RPG's but never have time for the old stile one's any more, but am still interested. I think what I really want is a bunch of quick play, party, light gun, dance, and shooters.

Always looking to try something new so am interested in what ever you would play on the PS2.

Edit:
To make this more useful for people reading this later, for a while, I'll keep a running list of all suggestions.
Running list of all suggestions:

Light Gun Games:

Ninja Assault
Vampire Night
Time Crisis 2 and 3 / Crisis Zone
Dino Stalker

Party Games:
Any of the Sing Stars
Any of the Guitar Heroes
Any of the DDRs
all require extra hardware obviously
Amplitude (rhythm)
Buzz! (Trivia game)

Fighting:
Virtua Fighter 5
Soul Calibur 2 or 3
Tekken Tag
The MKs
MK shaolin monks
MK Armageddon
Barbarian
The dragon ball z games

Driving:
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2/3/Zero
Burnout 3
Gran Turismo 3 (I like it better than 4)

Other:
ICO
Tony Hawk 2 or 3
Super Fire Pro Wrestling X
Shadow of the Colossus
Katamari Damacy
We Love Katamari
God of war 1 and 2
manhunt 1 and 2

jak and daxter
the simpsons hit and run
Balders gate (dungeon crawler)
Devil may cry series
Gun
Max payne
Obscure (survival horror)
Maximo
Sphinx and the cursed mummy (platformer)
Monster hunter (hack and slash)
Dawn of mana (action adventure game)
Prince of persia: the sands of time
Destroy All Humans (action adventure game)
Heavenly guardian
Dark cloud

FPS

TimeSplitters 2 and 3 were great back in the day but are a bit clunky now by todays fps standards
the suffering 1&2
Half life

Shoot Em ups

RPG's
final fantasy x, x-2 and XI
Kingdom Harts
Tales of legendia
Evergrace
Growlancer 2& 3 (Tactical role-playing game)

I've recently begun playing PS2, as i never had one BITD.  I set out to get a handful that i wanted, and was not disappointed.

Katamari Damacy & We Love Katamari - better for parties, really upbeat and happy. Tons of fun
Shadow of the Colossus - not at all a party game, but BEAUTIFUL in every sense of the word.  Great to play and worth every second.

Those are my two (three, really) absolute favourites, but don't really meet your criteria.

I was emotionally moved by SotC.  I damn near wanted to form a religion around it.  Masterpiece.

Only criteria is what do you guys like. I was just laying out my thoughts. Honestly I would rather add a few games that I might not get to rather then only sure things.

I have always wanted to give Shadow of the Colossus a go but have not thought to add it to now. The other two look good as well.

Light gun games has to be the Time Crisis series.

Fighters MK or Tekken.

General play Resident evil, Metal gear solid, man hunt.

And just a special mention for a lightgun/general play Resident Evil dead aim was alot of fun!

The PS2 plays PS1 natively doesn't it?  If so I would throw in Bust a groove (NOT BUST A MOVE),  its a dancing rhythm game in similar vein to parapa the rapper.

Why does everyone like that "Heavenly Guardian" game? I have it, based on a bunch of recommendations, and just can't get into it.  :dunno

The PS2 can only play Native PS1 games via the optical drive. From the HDD only emulations is posable for PS1.

Added GTA to the list.
