I would like some recommendations myself.  My ISP recently flagged me for downloading episodes from a channel I pay for... stupid suddenlink.

I pay for a service.  Its not the cheapest - but it works and keeps Spectrum off my back.  Here is a link to a PCMag article rating services:  https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2403388,00.asp

I use expressvn.

And yes it works - throughput is excellent and it works like a boss.

Straight downloading or torrenting?

I've only ever heard of anyone getting a letter if they were torrenting, which means they were also uploading.

I ignored them...until they blocked my internet access and made me call and talk to their security department to unlock it....

they work, so do private trackers.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Yup that's what happened to me.  I could reactivate online, but it was a colossal pain in the ass.  I'm curious about the free ones.... seems like a scam to me.  I don't know which ones are good either.

I live in canada, they can't do anything but forward the letter to you. the recording ind. or motion pic guys or lawyers or whoever have no idea who you are... the ISP forwards their request to you.

if you want to stay under the radar, just don't seed. just hit and run. it kills torrents but, it's the giving out of the content that get you in trouble. it's still gray area.

I wonder if a good rebuttal would be...

you say i stole their work... did they MAKE this MP3? this MP3 isn't theirs is it? Did I take this MP3 from THEM?

or... say you drew a cat... i made a copy of your cat that looks exactly like your cat... but it's not I maked the cat from your cat.

A friend of mine got a harsh letter from Verizon for torrenting the movie machete. Lol

I had a laugh and gave him my old Kodi box.

Anymore, recorded OTA & YouTube fill up whatever viewing time I have available.

I don't mind sharing what happened.  I wanted to catch up on past episodes of Rick and Morty so I went to Adult Swim's website, plugged in my cable provider, and the site appeared to be hosed somehow... it kept getting stuck in a buffering loop and the videos never started.... I tried a couple of PCs and a few web browsers and for whatever reason they just weren't playing that day.  So I got on the old Pirate bay and downloaded the last two seasons.  My internet is shut down the next morning with a C&D notice.

So how is it illegal to download a show on a network I pay for and that payment includes unlimited streaming of all the shows?  I'm sure technically it isn't the same thing, but come on... how about a little fair use?

I agree with that argument btw.... piracy isn't stealing... it's unauthorized copying and yet the laws are made around theft instead of what it should be... the crime of taking a magazine off the rack and Xeroxing it.... I'm sure it's illegal, but I'll bet it's a pretty petty crime.

OMG I know right?, Utubes are like awesome, I love watching that EEEV blog guy (tear it apart) *trying to sound like him* ::).... Torrenting really doesn't fit my lifestyle, rom sites don't seem to like the VPNs anyway, they want to track your downloads so they they can get you to upload like 75%, and Hollywood has become so politically ridicules I just don't even bother to watch them anymore much less steal their garbage....(I did buy Tron 2 however and space cowboys) but normally just watch vcr tapes from the thrift store.

The people making bank in the music industry are the small minority.  Most of the people impacted by declining revenues in that industry are everyday Joe's working 9-to-5's.  It's the sound engineers, the marketing folks, retailers, etc, that mostly feel the pain.  Even the majority of artists don't make all that much.

Spotify is killing the music industry and it is legal and free.

hell you don't even need to torrent mp3 you can find every song on youtube and just go to  a site like this http://www.listentoyoutube.com/ and save the video as an mp3.

Keep making it sound like the old way was better, you had to have radio play and be on MTV if you wanted your album to sell, in today world anyone can get out there and be heard giving a lot more opportunity to make money... Just look at the thousands of you-tubers making a good living from paytron funded by there fans.

That's true.  The music industry thinks that sales went down because of piracy when in reality sales went down because there is waaaay more competition and a consumer can listen to your full album before they buy it, and thus you can't trick them into buying a crap album anymore.  I know I still buy all the music I like... on CD, because I don't want to have to buy it again in 10 years.

I use private internet access. Its cheap and takes no effort in setting up. Its not like I'm looking up government secrets or anything. I just want to avoid the tracking crap that goes on with providers. The mac version works great but im finding the ios version very temperamental. It frequently drops and reconnects at seemingly the most annoying times. When it drops it takes approximately 45 seconds for everything to get back to normal again so it can be obnoxious.
