Need for speed carbon

Anyone that has messed with global vr products knows the computers are junk. So I built a newish pc with an asrock motherboard that uses the same processor/chip set which I was told would be compatible with the original stuff. I have a friend trying to get the game running, but he's having issues getting the drivers and other stuff to install.
The latest issue, excuse me if I state this wrong I'm pc inept, is this: Something about the INF asking for pci.sys file. From what we're told this file should be on the operating restore disk, but the system is saying the pci.sys doesn't exist.

Anyone have any ideas on what to try next?

try just dumping a copy of pci.sys into the same folder that houses the INF for the drivers you are installing.  if its on a cd you may have to dump it into a folder on  the computer so you can add it and then run it from there.

its posibble originally the drivers where done in a specific order as to have already has pci.sys in the system.

Is it possible to run NFS carbon on something like win7 or 10? I think that would probably solve all of our issues, but then we would fight the nytric drivers.. nevermind

what shawn is saying is correrct
but your largest problem is trying to dump file's
a=in windows when they are linux
b=windows must be fourced to allow you to see  system files
pci.sys will be there but it could have an extenision to it .inf for example
this would
a=hide the file
b=make it un-readable to windows
shawn pointed you to a way
do this
make a folder on your c: harddrive >note i went root<
copy the contents of the rescue disk to it.
now start/run/cmd >run cmd in adim mode< this gives u full control
now c:\to the folder u made for the rescue disk
now look for it,i bet u find what u need

There is probably a program included with the ultimate boot CD that can see the file and copy it.

The computer is basically running from the disc, so the problems of the windows environment don't apply.

It's been so long, I don't remember the name of the program on there I used last time I monkeyed around with pulling files from an oddball drive.
TestDisk maybe? (parted magic looks promising)
