LED screen buttons

Well, someone found a way to make it cost effective, kinda.

How long until someone buys two of these and rigs them into a CP? :)

Looks like an LCD covered with a bezel with "buttons" cut out of it.

Heh.  My thoughts exactly.  Not as useful for this hobby as an actual touch-screen, which could also be used for directions while in a game.  Just need an android developer to write code to do that kind of thing, along with an application on the PC side to monitor the device.  Could probably even be done via Wifi.

I thought the same at first, but then I saw mention that the buttons were 144x144px, which rang a bell as one of the little LCD screen sizes -- and the review videos like this one seem to indeed show some amount of tactile feedback. Maybe they're faking it by having a clear button housing that actually causes a capacitive touch signal?

I am sure this is terrible haptic feel for arcade play, mind you! I just thought it was neat given past discussions on the topic. :)

Aha, looks like that is indeed what they are doing, according to some reviews: "- CAUTION: Don't press too hard on any of the buttons, you'll create ripples on the LCD screen!
- The Stream Deck is basically a small display with transparent a 5 x 3 transparent button overlay. In other words, one screen is responsible for setting the image on each button (Each button is NOT an individual screen)."
