Elf and Pandora box won't expand edge to edge
« on: July 26, 2016, 11:28:33 am »
I run computer set up with Hyperspin in my arcade cabinet with a 25" arcade monitor, and the games work fine. When I connect a Elf or Pandora box 4 to my system the screen will have a 1" boarder on each side. I could try and adjust the horizontal coil but I doubt it will have that much adjustment in it. Its not a big deal but my fav game is joust and it's not very good when your bird gets to the edge and takes awhile to come out the other side.
Anyone have the same issue when running one of these multi game boxes? The Pandora box 3 actually was fine and displayed edge to edge!

That's a known bug with those boards.  I run my Pandora from the VGA port and don't have the problem.  I wish I had a solution for you, but I don't think there is one.

Thanks..... I did try the width coil but it only varies it slightly. I will build another cabinet with a vga monitor and set it up. The other two boxes I had worked fine on VGA and I will test this one now.
Funny how the first box Pandora 3 I bought worked fine!

From what I've read, it's a bug that seems to present itself randomly per board.  Some boards do it and other don't, even within the same model.  It's probably a weird batch of hardware used in manufacture.

Connected up a 20" VGA monitor and it also does not go edge to edge. It has adjustment for horizontal and vertical adjustment but not to expand outward or inward only to center the picture. Will have to find a monitor that does both

I have found on the multiboards that they are essentially impossible to adjust for width and the menu and the games are never the same width in the first place.

i've had this issue as well. it usually a matter of ramping UP the pixel clock and turning DOWN the horizontal.

haven't the foggiest why they do it.

maybe it's a 50hz vs 60hz thing.... board outputs 50 hz but the monitor expects 60? china is 50 hz.

They only care that it appears to work, not that it actually works.

While I have a Vertical issue along with the Horizontal width. The top of the screen is squished so the high score ect  is not readable in certain games.
It also does this with the menu system and in Test mode the title is all messed up. It just does not sync proper with an arcade monitor or at least mine.
Best bet is to use it with a VGA monitor. Seems all the new 24" monitors won't let me adjust vertical/horizontal size (expand in and out)
They only allow for position left and right adjustments and auto adjust. Does anyone know a monitor that handles V/H sizing?

As I said in the other thread, if you want that, get a CRT.

Not sure what you mean. An arcade monitor is a CRT

My mistake. I was thinking 24" LCD based on your other post.
