OK, the BYOAC release of ZapCon the Game has been sent off for testing. Once I get confirmation that all is well, it'll be posted.

In the mean time, here's the skinny on the game:

OK, so I wasn't planning on bringing anything new to ZapCon in 2016, but at the end of last year, I was noodling around with some game creation software that I had when it hit me - I could create a ZapCon-themed game that would be fun and silly but allow me to work on being creative and figure stuff out. So I bounced some ideas off of some members here who I trust, and the Vulcan Bros. was born - a mini-game design consortium, if you will. I would work on the game, do the programming and scripting, and the rest of the team was play-testing, ideas, and quality assurance, We started off with screenshots, then preliminary builds, then actual playthoughs until we got the game where we wanted it to be. I was open to their feedback - I valued it, and the game evolved from in to its final form based on their suggestions and criticisms (I held firm on the snake, though).

More later.

Brilliant.  Everyone I spoke to who was playing it loved the game.  It deserved to win for 2016.  Congrats again!

I about died when I saw the shooter stage boss.  Totally worth it.  And the "Bonus Stage" was the best.

There's plenty of BYOAC inside jokes in the game.

Actually, the good news is that I have decided to return to the classroom, so instead of being a technology trainer, I'm going to be a business teacher. And the cool thing about that is all these machines are part of the business department. So I have have even more access to these wonderful devices.

That's ok, it's dark enough that you really don't notice it. Besides, I like it there. It signifies how fun the weekend was. Still planning to write a full recap.

Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme....

Trying to resolve a resolution issue. It's currently hard coded at 600x800 to run vertically. Trying to see if I can get it to resize on the fly for horizontal monitors with lesser resolution. Runs fine on higher res monitors, though, but I'm trying to make it MAME cab friendly.

Sorry man, didn't mean to cause issues.  Don't forget about us horizontal guys!  LOL.  Was trying to create a follow up vid for the other one I posted about the game itself.

Worse case:  I can shoot it on my normal PC which doesn't have the issue.

I know, the recap is long coming, and the game. After Friday, I'll have time to do all that (look for the 2016 Summer of Chuff thread).

But I did want to share this. Ond gave me a nice gift - printed blueprints to his awesome Astro cab. So whenever I had time, I put together a custom wood frame, minimalistic like the cab, with a bright red paint, also like the cab. I filled seams and sanded  between coats, trying to mimic the cab's finish.

Here it is in its place of honor in the Casa de Yotsuya gameroom...

Double nope, its a Faster than Speed seat on a Faster than Speed cab (that is running Maximum speed, but I have both Atomiswave carts in there)

I think Rush had those seats first, I have one on mine. May have just sourced them from same manufacturer.

How you like those Atomiswave boards?

The Atomiswave boards are solid as a rock. Faster than Speed is a terrible game , Maximum Speed pretty much never gets swapped out. its kinda like a simplified Daytona with 5 short tracks and you can drive Trucks, NASCars, and Indy style cars. My wife prefers Max over Daytona 2 ; so Daytona 2 might be getting sold to fund purchasing another pin. She plays the pins more than all the vids combined.

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I had a SF2 pin for awhile.  Bought little figurines and stuck them in places that corresponded with their respective shots on the playfield.  Legs were rusted so I did them with stone texture paint that was reminiscent of the Capcom CPO artwork.

The weird thing about FTS is that there are no clues on how to do the secret moves. They're too secret!

Tell Mel where you got the toys.

You know, pretty sure they were prizes at a Putt Putt Golf arcade.  15 years ago.

That turned out very nice yots!  I may just have to steal that framing idea for my own copy.  It was fun drawing those up and figuring out how to get that blueprint look.

Thank you for the gift of the blueprints. I'm quite chuffed that I own one of only three copies in the world.
