Where to start (virtua fighter 4 )
« on: October 28, 2016, 02:17:25 pm »
Hey Guys,

I bought this cabinet about 4 years ago and have done nothing with it I just dont know where to start as it has a ' naomi 2' unit in it and from what I gathered its basically a dreambox!! Just wondering where to start, I'm ordering the video card from ultimarc.com I figure I need a j-pac harness as it seems to me that it's a JAMMA unit that I have but what do I connect to what.... it almost seems that I can just plug my MAME'd PC now and use the connectors the naomi 2 is using.....any help would be appreciated it....i wanna play old school games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Naomi might use a modified jamma harness like my neo geo mvs. Yoy have to do some searching for jamma pinout on it and compare to the jpac pinout which basically follows the jamma standard minus power wires. For my neo geo, i decided to make a new harness bevause my new buttons took different size connectors. Thats an option too. Jpac has no audio amp and assumes the jamma mono audio. Of naomi has stereo, you need a stereo amp. I have a few extra if you need. Pm for details.

The Naomi system feeds the JAMMA standard. You have what looks like a JVS IO board that takes all the Naomi outputs and translates them to JAMMA.  You would not use any of the Namoi wiring. You interested in selling the hardware, cash+ JPAC?? I want to convert a crazy taxi cab and need a Naomi 2 mobo but I'd buy all of it.  I've circled where you would plug in the JPAC to use the existing button wiring.

What kind of monitor do you have in the cab? You might be able to just run everything at 640x480 and not need to buy a video card, unless you want to play games in their native resolutions.

Thanks Guys, been away from home for a couple of days but will check in on the monitor. By the way what would you want to do with the existing naomi 2 why wouldn’t you just MAME ur system? But I will have no use for it so yes I guess I would like to get rid of it, make me an offer! But thanks for the info its much appreciated I will check in on the monitor and order my video card and then a J-Pac I think those are my first steps correct?

Im an arcade guy, not a MAME guy. Dont have a single machine running MAME or any other emulator :) I'd use that Namoi2 to replace the Naomi1 in the Crazy Taxi cab Im trying to pick up. It would allow me to run more racing games than the Naomi1

I'll shoot you a PM
