Vertical monitor cab

Was planning on a build for a vertical upright.  With only vertical mame XML possibly hyperspin, maybe pinball as well

From what I've been reading, I think originally most games like pacman were a 19" CRT on its side(please correct me if I'm wrong).

Anyway I have 2 questions.  How many buttons(only 1 player)

If I went lcd which is they way I'm leaning. What would be a good size(24" wide cab)

On a side note, I think pinball may be more an option. Never tried on my horizontal cab, but idk if I want to put buttons on the sides.

Any advice/experience would be much appreciated.

Yes, a ton of the old classics were 19" tubes on their sides.

If you go with an LCD, find an older 19" 4:3 one.  Then you have the right size/aspect.

 I believe most (all?) 19" LCD monitors are 5:4, not 4:3.

This doesn't really make much difference as far as I can tell - the aspect ratio looks the same to me.

I'm not saying this to be pedantic, it's just useful to know if you happen to be searching for one on eBay etc.

You actually want a 21" PC monitor. Arcade monitors are measured by viewable screen size like TVs are and PC monitors include the bezel in it's measurement. So a 21" PC monitor is the same size as a 19" arcade monitor.

This is true for CRT's, but LCD's are measured across the viewable area.

This.  If I can't use an arcade CRT, my next option is always a 21" computer CRT.

i have 2 old crt tvs, but they only have RF in, probably more work than its worth to convert, i'll look on craigslist for a 19" pc monitor than.

Same here.  I'm actually considering on tossing at 21" PC CRT into my Super Pacman resto instead of the burned in 19" stock arcade G07.
