Spinner, ? about bearings

If I were to use this or somehting similar to mount my spinner...

Would I waant the shaft of the spinner to be a snug fit in the center hole, or should it spin freely of the bearing?

Is that a roller bearing or a sleeve bearing? I'd lean towards snug, but how snug is a matter of the type of bearing you'll be using.

Sleeve I think for this specific one but there's all different kinds, BB, roller, sleeve, metal, plastic etc

Typically, the sleeve in that style of bearing pivots in the housing because they are normally used in self-aligning applications.  This means that there are a few degrees of movement of the sleeve so the shaft hole isn't necessarily always perpendicular to the flange.  If you are using 2 of them, then it should be okay.  But using a single one will cause your spinner shaft to move around a bit, possibly causing a problem with the encoder wheel/optic board alignment.

 A good cheap bearing can be found in Western Digital hard drives.  The bearing is  tight and has very good
weight  and I have been nothing but happy with the 2 I have made...just click on the controls link and follow the links to it

Oscar- 2 is defintiely in the plan to eliminate wobble

I'm using the large encoder disk, from OscarsControls of course, and cant remember the size of the center hole.. I think it's 3/8" but mines installed and I dont wanna rip it apart while its still functioning fine  

Is that the correct size- 3/8?

The encoder wheel has a 1/4" hole.

I had about (25) of the larger 66T encoder wheels made with a 1/2" hole, but I don't believe those ever made it out into the wild.  These would be good for a steering wheel project, or something like that that needs a larger shaft.  I still have these sitting on a shelf if anyone is interested.
