How many buttons are mostly used on most mame games?

I have 6 buttons per player, just one of them spare will make creating this program alot easier...

Could you rephrase your question?  What are you trying to do?

I think he is asking how many buttons do most games use. I also think our friend is putting the cart before the horse by starting a Mame cabinet project before he even really knows what Mame is.

Anyway, most games use 1 button.
Most others use 2.
Almost all the rest use 3.
Maybe 3 or 4 percent of games use four or more (90 percent of which are fighters).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
