Turn bartop cabinet into subwoofer?

Hi all, I'm in the process of building a Street Fighter 5 bartop for my brother's upcoming birthday.  I'm in the midst of looking at my speaker options.  In the past, my go to speaker is the Logitech L120.  Its easy to take apart, the speakers are pretty small and the off/on/volume knob is pretty long so its easy to incorporate in a cab. 

However, I was looking to see if I could incorporate a subwoofer for that added kick on this project.  As you probably know, subs are pretty big so I don't think I could put one in there. 

Would it be possible to cut out a hole at the bottom of the bartop, extract the subwoofer speaker from a 2.1 speaker set, and basically turn the entire bartop interior into the subwoofer?  Would it work audio physics wise?  Do you think the extra bass would shake the other components in a negative way?

Those tiny subs only work because of the enclosure they in, using one in "free air" like you described wouldn't produce much bass at all.

the little woofer only makes as loud a boom as it does because the cabinet it resides in is specifically tuned for that speaker. putting it in another enclosure would not be ideal.

is it possible to build the woofer and it's box into the cabinet somehow?

other than that, you could possibly recreate the volumetric size of the original enclosure into the bartop. then it would probably sound okay. It needn't be the same size or shape, it just has to have the same volume as the interior of the original box.

IE if it's 12x12x12 inches  or 1 cubic foot, you can reform that however you see fit 6x24x12....you just have to have 1 cubic foot.

or buy a free air sub 6in maybe

Try to hack a small car sub if there's enough space not to make a huge mess with its exposed magnet. They can be found for pennies.

I used an Edifier Aurora speaker set in my bartop build.  Sounds great compared to a 2.0 system, and very tiny.  They do take some modification for external volume control (I used arcade buttons) as they require button press on every time.
