The top will go over where the T molding is, just using scrap.

29" wide, 14" deep.  from the monitor to the trackball is roughly 10".  looks about a hand width between the ball and the controls on either side.

I know a lot of ppl advised only 6 buttons, but i like the idea of the 7th for MK as block. which is easy reach for the thumb.

anyone see an error that i am missing, as far as spacing or anything else?

If anyone has a similar setup, if you could provide an image with your dimensions, that would be awesome.

Creating a control panel at Mach 1?  Cool!

Sorry, had to do it...

Seriously though, looks pretty good but I'm not sure the hardware will fit.  You need to account for the stuff underneath and the microswitches sticking out.
You can grab a free CP design software here which will account for the sizes of stuff.  Grab it here:  http://www.mameroom.com/files/CPD_Setup.zip

Also, I'd move the trackball up so that you can rest your palm on the control panel.

Last but not least.  Most people have the thumb button for the "RUN" in MK3.  The two center buttons (2 and 5) are usually re-mapped in MAME to be the block buttons (since the block was in the center in the arcade versions).

Good luck!

Track ball is much too close to the front of the panel. No where to rest your palms.

Ergonimically, I personally think the button layout is not good and will cause you much pain in the long run.

Lay your right hand out naturally on your keyboard or a table. Notice the natural layout if your index, middle and ring fingers. This is what you should be striving for in the 3 button arc.

I don't know why people keep mixing up arcade control panels with keyboards, both with thinking you need resting space and with terrible "ergonomic" layouts like the one posted above. That layout is not at all intuitive, and is easy to get lost on. Just install the buttons in 2 straight lines the way God and Capcom intended you to do it.

Also, the real Japanese curved layout is so mild that it might as well not even be there. In fact the only reason it is there in the first place is because it allowed generic cabinet makers in Japan to support Capcom and Neo Geo fighters on the same cabinet without creating different control panel blanks. The only reason Neo Geo drops that first button is because 4 straight across wouldn't fit on most generic Japanese cabinets when they were developing the Neo, so the first button came down and bought just enough space for it to fit.

Full disclosure. I have a Namco Excelleena 2 sitting right next to me with the standard Japanese curve on it. It plays well, but the slight curve adds nothing. I also have a Mame cabinet in my basement with that stupid wicked curve you have shown in your layout, anything past 3 buttons is really hard to play.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
