Track ball is much too close to the front of the panel. No where to rest your palms.
I don't know why people keep mixing up arcade control panels with keyboards, both with thinking you need resting space and with terrible "ergonomic" layouts like the one posted above. That layout is not at all intuitive, and is easy to get lost on. Just install the buttons in 2 straight lines the way God and Capcom intended you to do it.
Also, the real Japanese curved layout is so mild that it might as well not even be there. In fact the only reason it is there in the first place is because it allowed generic cabinet makers in Japan to support Capcom and Neo Geo fighters on the same cabinet without creating different control panel blanks. The only reason Neo Geo drops that first button is because 4 straight across wouldn't fit on most generic Japanese cabinets when they were developing the Neo, so the first button came down and bought just enough space for it to fit.
Full disclosure. I have a Namco Excelleena 2 sitting right next to me with the standard Japanese curve on it. It plays well, but the slight curve adds nothing. I also have a Mame cabinet in my basement with that stupid wicked curve you have shown in your layout, anything past 3 buttons is really hard to play.
