Daytona Cab/Steering Weel Modding
« on: December 10, 2015, 07:08:54 am »
Hi All

I have acquired some Daytona cabs and want to make a very simple racing cab.  I have one cab that has been stripped and I need to find a way to mount a steering wheel in the cab.  The problem is the clearance of the wheel from its body isn't enough to fit it in the cab because of the lip of the plastic front.

I have seen a couple of cabs with xbox wheels, g27's and g25's but I cant find any descriptions about how they were mounted? My best reasoning is that they have extended the wheel shaft in some way but I have no idea of the best way to go about this so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Find the operator's manual for your Daytona Cab.  In many of the manuals I have looked at, there is an illustrated parts breakdown.

You should be able to identify the way the wheel was mounted with the arcade wheel and be able to adapt your PC or console wheel to it.

My arcade wheel is awesome and easy to mount.  My xbox 360 has the mounting built into the frame.  I think taking it apart would compromise the structural integrity to some point.  I've seen a 360 mod to make the turning smoother, infact I've bought the bearing suggested, I need more light in my work space to approach that project.

Some are easier, its just a matter of taking the wheel off and stuffing the steering column assembly behind the dash.

Take some pics of the dash, front and back for reference.  Take some measurements.  Tell us what wheel you are going to use.

Also check out the driving and racing sub forum for more examples.  Plenty of others have been down this road.

If i was in your situation i would try to aquire the original wheel setup and mod that rather than trying to get a wheel to fit.
