I've used HOT glue
Edit - damn autocorrect. Anyway, drop of hot glue on the threads and tighten the ball top while the glue is still pliable.

Blue loctite all the way.
I use it mine. Works great.
I bought it in a small Chapstick like tube.

That stick of blue loctite.... is it a thick texture? I have some regular blue liquid locktite but hate using it cause its so runny and even a single drop spreads out everywhere.

The blue Chapstick style stuff doesn't run at all and the ball tops are completely stable after. Not spinning off but if you really need to get them off, you can

Its like the consistency of Chapstick.
Not runny in the least.
Works great.

wow, a quick google search and looks like it is more expensive than I remembered.
If you already have the runny stuff, just use it with an acid brush.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Linzer-1-2-in-Tin-handled-Acid-Brushes-6-Pack-9002-0/100179140
squirt a little in small cap or something and use the acid brush to spread a small amount on the joystick thread.
