Ms. Pac Man Restoration (pic heavy)
« on: November 16, 2015, 04:20:04 pm »
Saw this on my local CL for $200 and immediately went to pick it up. It was fully intact, all original and more or less in pretty solid shape, as far as the cabinet goes. The monitor worked, but it only displayed Red and the board was in Watchdog. A simple cleaning and re-seating of the edge connector fixed that but the monitor ended up having a shorted Red gun, so it had to be replaced with one of my spares. The board has been hacked to run off a standard power supply instead of the DC transformer. I don't know why but I'll left it as it was and installed a new switching power supply and removed the computer supply that you see in the pics below. As for the monitor, I had a very good candidate for an 'under smoked plexi' replacement. A few years ago, one of my fellow local collectors parted out a non-working Xevious and asked if I wanted the monitor. I gladly accepted because I knew I'd find a use for it later down the road. It was the original G07. I fully rebuilt it and set it aside for future use. Fast forward to today and now it's installed in the Ms. Pac machine and looking great...except for the horrible burn-in. But that's why I kept it because I knew I'd eventually get a Pac or Ms. Pac and it would be a perfect candidate to go under the smoked plexi and hide the burn-in (as well as could be expected).

Anyway, here are all the pics from beginning to end. Thanks for your interest and comments (good or bad) are always welcome...

Had to do some re-arranging a bit to get Ms. Pac added to the collection. Q*Bert had to go in Commando's old spot, Commando had to squeeze in next to Street Fighter, and Ms. Pac went in the line where Q*Bert was...

Great restore. I really love seeing a good original cab get restored. I probably enjoy seeing restores more than original builds. Wish BYOAC had more restores actually.

Also great collection you have there a lot of the machines I'd love to have myself.

If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

Great job on this dude. Can't see that burn in at all from the pics.

Is this the speed hack one, or original. (original is probably cooler, but I suck at it)
Finished: 2 bartops and a cocktail
Not-Finished: 1bartop, 2cocktails, and 2 stand ups.
