Bought a Dead Silver Strike. Turns out...not dead. Questions.

Hi all. I recently purchased a supposedly dead Silver Strike with the intention of building out a MAME cabinet. I liked it because it looked like someone had already added 2 joysticks and extra buttons to the beast. It turns out the plug was royally jacked and upon fixing that the beast powered right up.

I checked the wiring inside and it looks like they spliced into the jamma cable directly with these. Though I'm not sure why. Maybe a horizontal all in one? That aside the game works great. Now I'm not sure wether to mame it or not. If I did I'd Put in an LCD or TV (I know...I know). This would be my fist time trying this and I'm thinking I would have to redo all the wires. It's either that or perhaps finding a Golden Tee Complete set and maybe get one of the Happs switchers and go that route.

I've included a pic of the funky control panel. What would you guys do? Oh, I'm in the Denver area. If there are any other folks around here I'd definitely like to meet sometime. Thanks for your thoughts folks.

Many of those cabs had multi sync crt monitors. No reason you cant mame that thing and keep the crt. Thats a big screen and groovymame would be nice.

Check out the jpac if you want to use the jamma harness or get an ipac and just rewire.

If you plan on keeping that control panel, it would seem a little silly to just have silver strike or golden tee on there.
As Dude Regular said, it may be a multi sync monitor.
I would mame it, the control panel is already all set.

If money is not an issue - Buy a golden Tee, get a happ perfect solution switcher to make a dual machine in the golden tee cab, then completely mame this one after it is gutted of its boards/PC.

I am guessing that would rack up a bit of a bill, because i believe those perfect solutions are like $100, and there is enough demand for golden tee to make those around 500 or more, especially if you want a bit newer of a golden tee.


Since I am guessing money is not infinite, I would say go completely one way or another. Either bring it back to a pure silver strike, or mame it and sell the silver strike guts to help fund the rest of the cab. If your bring it back, taking out the joysticks and buttons should be easy to do, just fill the holes with bondo, cut a new piece of plexi and put on new art. I would be willing to bet stpcore, a member here, would be able to print you new control panel art.

And if you haven't played much silver strike yet, after a while it loses its thrill as a single player game, but is an excellent party game.

Get some pics of your chassis and the other boards that make up the guts of the monitor. Then google the numbers you see on the boards. If you dont find anything that way post up the pics and we can take a look.

Also if it has a vga plug then it is an short few steps to being ready for a pc.

If the monitor uses a standard VGA "DE-15" cable chances are high it's a multi-sync.
