High Score Competition #175: Spatter
« on: September 21, 2015, 09:19:48 am »
High Score Competition Rules and Scoreboard

----------------------------
Game Name :     Spatter
ROM Name  =     spatter
----------------------------

Settings:
   default : 3 lives / extra life at 40k, 120k and 480k / reset timer/objects on life loss no

Controls:
    4 way joystick, 'Jump' button

You are in a maze of two-way streets, you and your trusty tricycle. Your mission is to brave the maze and collect 8 flowers as fast as you can. In the middle of the roads there is some kind of rubber fence, into which your can fling your tricycle, thus evading baddies or bumping into them, sending them careening off the screen. There are some bricks lying around which can be shot at the baddies, flung around with the fence, or simply shot to the end of the street to hit a wall and then crumble, leaving some bonus points.

I couldn't find any wiki, KLOV just shows a bunch of screenshots.

Final scores.

   WakiMiko       1,508,170

  2nd :     yamatetsu      1,174,410

Strangely addicting little game takes a while to get used to using the railing and reacting before you get trapped and those concrete blocks take too long to play through their animation but will be interesting to see what everone can do by the end of the competition.

After a few games - 90,730

Turned this one off before I completed one game.  Perhaps I'll fire it up again so I can claim last place.

Ugh, ---fudgesicle--- the bug in level 20.

Yup, highly annoying. Also, ---fudgesicle--- rounds 9, 10, 24, and most of all, round 16. Can't seem to get past that one without dying at least once.
Oh, and ---fudgesicle--- jumping around a brick into a baddie instead of shooting the brick.

pbj : Give the game a chance. Once you get the hang of the controls, zipping around the levels is fun.

Agree with everything, especially level 16.

I wish there would be two buttons, one for jumping and one for shooting bricks. The funny thing is that the game already uses two buttons, but they both jump ╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Explain the bug.. does it seem like an original game bug?

the 'spattera' set in current versions actually might be a newer revision, might be worth seeing if it has the same bug.

In round 20, one block always spawns in the lower right part of the level, outside the reachable area. If its the diamond block you are out of luck. Looks like a bug in the original game to me  and not something that MAME introduced.

I cheated myself through "spattera", happens in that version too.

I debated...

Wait until the last minute & post my score to get into 3rd place & pick the next game?

or

Post now & compel JDFan play this goofball of a game for the next 34 hours straight...and still maybe get to pick the next game...?

OK, JDFan. You have to play more. Ha-ha.

Suweet!

It will be Bionic Commando. Never really played it, but there's a bit of buzz around it.

Start practicing. I'll try to post the new thread tonight.

Got really lucky with my run, made it through round 16 with full lives and didn't have to suicide in level 20. After a while the game recycles the levels, though you spawn in a different spot.
