Donkey Kong Jr. restore
« on: September 14, 2015, 12:48:39 am »
So I bought this game about 2 weeks ago on ebay...after going back and forth with this guy we agreed on a price. He lived 3 hours away, I had already paid for the game threw ebay. I get there he wheels it out, I throw it in the car and ride home...I already could tell right when he rolled it out, the pics that were on ebay were not the same ones...nor was his description threw 3-4 emails but I didnt care, I was just ready to go home and arguing after he has my money is pointless. Any who here are some pics of the game...

What I know:
Screen worked when I plugged the machine in
Original everything, including the Nintendo buttons (that orange button may very well be going on the DK)
I have to replace the marquee, bezel(?) the front glass
The control panel is solid still
No back door
Joystick is hard to move, but I think a good cleaning will help
I need a PCB (knew that already)
Stickers and sideart
Coin door was at some point pried open so that will have to be replaced
I have to figure out what to do with the side where the outside layer is splitting apart at the bottom (other side has minor issues)

I think thats about it in my 10 min inspection of it...

I feel your pain on that bottom corner. I cry a little every time I see an abused Nintendo cab.
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

Whew. Thank goodness. I was just about to be worried there wasn't going to be a new DK/DK Jr. restore thread this week!  :laugh2:

Good luck. That corner is gonna take some work!

That damage looks nasty, But a sharp putty knife to clean up delamination and some fibre glass resin, good as new... Congrats on the score (bait/switch whatever) it is what it is and awesome as well.

got some headway...inside is all clean except for the monitor area..I need to take it out and get the rust off all the mounts...I think I can have at least the cab repaired, finished, and maybe first coat on by Friday...for some reason I got some pep in my step this week

The worst is when people "Fix" the front coin door panel by adding a new piece of MDF and a modern HAPP door over top of the existing wood layer. You might as well scrap the whole panel on those and make a new one from scratch, at least the corner can be shaped with bond or MDF.

Still i feel your pain.

Thread added to the list.
