Connecting wires help
« on: September 07, 2015, 08:06:43 pm »
Hey guys,

I finally got my cade put mostly together but I still got a few speedbumps :banghead:

I ordered LED lights but I am having trouble connecting them to my IPAC ultimate board from Ultimarc. The four wires from the LED (yellow, red, green, blue) are so small (26 gauge?). The I have 16 lcds with 4 wires each which makes 64 wires. I couldn't even solder one to the ipac as shown in the picture. Is there a connector I can solder the wires to that will help them plug in to the IPAC? I just don't see being able to make 64 little connections.
When I tried soldering one I got the solder metal on two different pins lol :) PLease help this newb!

So buy the needed  connectors with the wires attached to them, and instead of trying to make the connectors by crimping TINY ends, or soldering, make them work by bringing 2 wires together instead. I have that same problem myself. This method works real well when doing a daisy chain. It can get a bit more complex when dealing with RGB,  but it's easier to crimp up a bunch of .187 or .110 wires with male/female ends then it is trying to make some tiny ends to plug into an iPac/Pac LED 64. The only REAL difference here, is it just looks cleaner on the inside when you make the needed ends over splicing 2 wires with crimp ends.

My honest opinion of that, is nobody is gonna be looking inside but you. As long as you know how you made it all work, you should be good.

I hear ya. I am looking at Fry's for the right connector but haven't found one yet. Got any recommendations? I don't care if it's neat or not. I just want functional but something that I know won't come looooooooooose.

Several optons to consider in this thread.

Using euro-style terminals to connect the LED wires to pre-crimped header wires is probably your best bet.   ;D
