1981 Coleco Ms Pacman Tabletop Arcade Repair
« on: July 06, 2015, 02:32:09 pm »
I would like to repair a Ms Pacman tabletop, the joystick does not go down. Does anybody know where I can get parts? Attached is a picture of the silver tab that needs to be replaced. I have no idea even what it would be called.

You can't get her to go down? That's not normally an issue unless you married her.

I had several of these as a kid and they all went bad. I wish I still had them.

Is the tab cracked? I assume they're like the old Atari joystick switches, which are little domes that flex and pop up when not used, but make contact with a pad underneath when activated.

I would search the web for a broken one on the cheap.  (Google "Coleco tabletop")Then you can grab the part from the broken one.

That said, I would not take it from a working one, even if it was cheaper.  There is no sense destroying one for a part for another.

Update:  Try contacting the guy on this page.  Looks like he repairs them.  It can't hurt to ask him if he has that part available.  http://www.geekvintage.com/coleco-tabletop-galaxian.php

My first question is whether this is a "collector quality" piece, or whether it's beat up and you are just trying to get it working to give to the kids to play with?

If the latter, I'd be really tempted to hack in some low-profile PCB-mounted miniature switches.  Might even be able to drill a hole in the pcb for the actuators and bottom mount them.

But if it's in collector condition, I'd look for the parts.

a handfull of iphone4s home buttons would probably work a treat and enough to fix all of them could be had for a few bucks.

OP, what you're looking for is called a Dome Switch.  Hope that helps in your search!
