What colour T-molding should Dan use?

So here is George Jetson, IN DA HOUSE! Literally. My neighbour helped haul him up the other day. While I finish off all the fiddly bits, I need to decide what colour T-molding to use. Initially I was going to go with blue, which is very close to the paint colour. The problem is, because it's so close to the paint colour, those lovely curves kinda disappear.

If anyone has the teh mad photshop skillz, feel free to shop in some different coloured t-molding to help visualise

Chrome or that black with the chrome stripe.  Otherwise just line it with the world's deadliest spiders and snakes that infest the prison you call a country.

Normally people say chrome is meant for casino games, but I never cared much for that opinion.  I'd definitely go chrome t-molding on this bad boy. Solid chrome, not the black w/ chrome stripe.
It fits the Jetsons-future theme well, and it'll make your curves pop a lot more than a plain solid colour.

Ok, I hadn't even thought of all chrome. I've tallied it and it's 6 for chrome and 6 for white. Since there wasn't an option on the poll for chrome I figure some of the votes for white would have been votes for chrome so I've reset the poll.

Just as I got interested in the chrome, it turns out t-moulding.com don't have it in 5/8", which is what I need. I will look around but I suspect if they don't have it, no one will. If I do find chrome, how bendy is it? Will it curve around the top (speaker box)?

Otherwise white it is! I was worried there would be hugely differing opinions but it looks like the majority think it should be a bright neutral, and now I think of it, that does say 'TO THE FUTURE'

I'm still sticking with my white recommendation but yes chrome will work fine. It's just as "bendy" as the others .

One thing to be careful about with chrome though is that unlike white and black and the others, it's not a solid color molding. its actually sorta clear with a sort of mylar coating over it.
the few times I've used it (from t-molding.com) it came with a protective coating over it that you remove after finishing. But I've never had an issue with it.

I don't agree with your cheap looking statement. I think T-molding makes your project look finished, professional, and can help tie the colour scheme together all-around. Just look at projects that don't have t-molding...they look unfinished, boring, and doesn't accentuate the curves of the cabinet making it feel drab or mundane.

Like I said, mostly chrome is used for casino games. But I've used chrome molding on one of my cabinets, and it turned out pretty nice, gives the cabinet a decadent look and though I could have gone with a solid Yellow, or Orange, Chrome is neutral and will go with any colour combination.




And for a retro-futuristic cabinet that Danny's putting together, chrome is an obvious choice.  Barring that he can find 5/8"...which I fear is going to be tough.

mgb is spot on. The chrome is coated, but it's durable. I too haven't had any issues with it, even with getting banged up a bit.  And yeah, it bends just like any other t-molding.
Hopefully it's available in 5/8" somewhere, though I cannot remember seeing them listed at that size.

To each's own I guess. But molding has been used by furniture and cabinet makers for quite a long time. It's still a standard and has a lot of applications.
Some people have used it for other projects, not just arcade machines, but for shelving to display their gaming collections, figurines, etc...

And yeah, it's cheap plastic. In our cases, applied to "cheap wood". Unless you make your cabinets out of rich Mahogany, or Japanese Fir. I don't know what your disdain for cheap plastic is. Maybe you're some rich dude who only buys "high-quality plastic"...

For the record, my Faster Than Speed cab came with chrome tmolding, and it looks like metal.

Just wondering what 3/4" chrome t-moulding would look like on a 5/8" edge?

Not sure what to do now. My girlfriend is thinking if I go with white t-moulding, then I should go with white buttons and ball tops as well. Right now I have blue buttons and ball tops. If I go with black then I could still leave the buttons as is. Same with chrome.

I'm ordering some white t moulding and sticking with the blue controls for now. I need to keep moving with this. Because the control panel is in the glass, it makes it quite a job to wire so I don't want to spend too much time experimenting with the colour of the controls. I've also ordered 3/4" chrome sample with it. Never know, it might look fine on a 5/8" edge (",)
