would this joystick be good for any mame games?

hey does anyone know if any mame games would benefit from using a joystick like this one linked below?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381223191805

EDIT: and  what about this other one below, would this give you many options regarding mame games which don't suit regular joysticks:

Well, the second one is just a normal micro-switch joystick, so it would work fine.  That first one, no clue.  It's an old style analog stick with a 15 pin connector.  I seriously doubt your computer even has that port.

I thought the second one might be some kind of optical joystick  (actually that said I do notice they spelt 'optical' wrong on the box, so that's a bad start.

looks like the first one uses a gameport connector, I think I remember that (from another century ::))
I think you would need something like this linked below to use it. more hassle that its worth perhaps.

Totally missed the "optical" on that second one.

Just to be nosey, are you looking for something specific that the reputable vendors don't offer or are you just trying to go as cheap as possible?

I've been known to take gambles on cheaper stuff hoping it will pay off.. ;D 'gamble' really is the key word though, unfortunately.
ps. im in uk so we get some quite high prices on some stuff.  not sure how it is over in the usa, I know a lot of the guys on the uk arcade forums are quite jealous of the dedicated cabs/pcb's etc over there in the usa which often seem to be nicely priced compared to what we are used to

I'm pretty sure Ultimarc is in the UK, and Andy there has some top notch gear.

Yea man.. I can't fathom using that first joystick. Looks like a toys r us aftermarket joy from 1993. Don't gamble with cheap stuff if you're trying to build an arcade.

I've got a couple old gameport joysticks that I use with this usb gameport adapter (one for each of them)

They work fine.

Most of the old analog flight sticks are plastic and feel spongy.
I wouldn't build it into a permanent control panel, but they're ok for some cheap thrills playing old flying games that originally had analog controls.
I found that I tired of the fighter jet games quickly.
Space Harrier is better with analog, although not unplayable without it.
It also works for Star Wars Trilogy on Model 3 emulator.

You could play the driving games with it if you really wanted, but that would just feel too wrong to me.
