Pacman Lowboy
« on: April 07, 2015, 01:39:47 am »
Finally finished off my pacman lowboy arcade machine.  Got this old gutted lowboy cab a couple of years ago and have been working on it slowly ever since.  Runs a 19" LCD in vertical orientation, Mamewah running Vertical games only.  Custom made CP and bezel art using the original Pacman art.  Thanks to the arcade art library for the original art!

I used the cabling off of an old ATX Power supply  as the main cable for the control panel.  This gives me one plug to allow the CP to be fully removed if need be.  It connects to an ATX power supply extension cable which in turn connects to the IPAC.

This looks great!  Congrats!

Love the idea of recycling the ATX connector!

I love Pac-man themed cabs when done right. Awesome work.  :applaud:

I'm torn whether to use this design for my next project or go the traditional mini Pac-man cab route.

Thanks for the nice comments.  I hope to one day make a matching Galaga themed lowboy to go next to this one.  Just have to work out what to do for the bezel art.

Very nice.  I usually prefer a coin door but yours looks better without one. That artwork is fantastic.

I think this is very cool.  It's got a nice "classic" look to it and looks like something you might have seen somewhere.  The lowboy cabinets are actually much nicer looking than the traditional pac-man cabaret.

Normally I would like to see a coin door but with the artwork the way you've done it I wouldn't change a thing.   I wish more MAME cabinets looked like this and show homage to the real thing.

Great job  :applaud:

This cabinet looks great. I am a huge fan of lowboys and I'm strongly considering building one.
This is what an actual pacman lowboy would have looked like (except for a coin door and single stick).

Very nicely done

Just browsing the 'I completed my project' thread and can't believe I hadn't commented on this. I love lowboys and this is a beauty

Edit: This build deserves a better picture in a nice clean environment.

Thanks for the compliments.  I love lowboys too.  Probably the most common cab here in Australia back in the 80s and 90s.  Yes unfortunately the photos don't do it justice.  Here are a few more photos with the room clean.  The iphone camera still would not take a decent photo though!

Wow, those pictures really do show off the build a lot better. Either the first or second of the pictures look like candidates to update the 'I completed my project' post ;)
