Old J-Pac Issues and Programming in DOS
« on: March 12, 2015, 07:15:04 am »
Hi,
I have an issue where P1SW2 and P2SW2 buttons don't work on my J-Pac. I have tested with a multimeter and get a signal even from the J-Pac fingers.

I contacted Andy and he told me "The very old type of J-PACs don’t have upgradeable firmware. Its possible (but unlikely) that these inputs have been de-programmed. You can check this if you have a PS/2 keyboard using this method: www.ultimarc.com/interact.html".

So I booted into FreeDOS with the PS2 keyboard I just purchased for this. Executed "copy con nulll" then pressed CTRL-ALT-P and a bunch of garbage (mostly @@@) shows up. I don't see any kind of menu. However I do try pressing "R" in hope I can reset the board back to default.

It appears it is locked in "T" test mode as I can push a button and see it displayed on screen.

Any help navigating this would be appreciated.

This is going way back but once I had a JPAC with a fried chip and a bunch of keystrokes went missing--Andy sent me a new one and it was good as gold after--it might be too old for him to have those chips laying about though...
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

If you've got one with surface mount chips, you're SOL.  If it's the socketed chips then maybe you can beg for replacements.
