Toronto Ontario Xbox debug kit
« on: March 10, 2015, 11:53:02 pm »
selling an Xbox Debug Kit, Local pickup would be best. It is in perfect condition... all seals are intact and it runs quiet. I really do not have a use for it at the moment. I am keeping this local atm as I haven't gotten an AV cable to check what's on it specifically. I will sell for $300 cash(price is negotiable, from my research this is a fair price), bring by your AV cable and no matter what is on it, it's yours for $300. These things are pretty rare to find in this state, and it's really a joy just to look at it :).
I would like to clear up some things.
Yes I got this for $50, if it bothers you that I got something for cheap and I want to sell for a fair price then that's a personal problem.
I am open to reasonable offers! if you truly feel that $300 is so over the top make me an offer that is reasonable.

I will update this post with pictures shortly.

price changed to $200

open to Ebay biddings

not trying to be price police, but they were not worth that much 2 years ago and demand has fallen sharply. Based on your debug kit's manufacturer date its a DVT-4 and not worth as much as a 6 is. best of luck with the sale though!

what purpose does it serve other than running unsigned code, same as a softmodded xbox? trying to understand how or why this is supposed to be worth $300 lol  :dunno

the presumed value is by whats on the hard drive; if its something unreleased people are more willing to part with their hard earned money. There are no known unreleased items anymore, hence the drop off in value. I was going to offer him $50 for it prior to this thread, just for the extra RAM in it.

Kind of bad form to brag about getting something for $50, pester us for "what can this be used for" information, find out the answer is basically "nothing special," and then try to flip it for $300 on the same forum on the same day.  I don't care about making friends here, either, but that certainly doesn't help your case.

It's funny you say that. I do not see how me getting it for much less than it's worth makes selling it for what it's worth a bad practice. The price I got it for is highly irrelevant in this. and I did not know asking questions on a forum is pestering....... That is kinda the purpose of a forum, a collection of knowledge so people can find these answers later on easily. nobody begged you to answer my question :) and I did not find out the answer is "nothing special", actually this piece is pretty interesting to someone who wants to either code on the original xbox, or someone who appreciates the piece for its historic value. I don't believe you truly understand the uses of such an Xbox and maybe you should do some more research (Y) Just because I got it for cheap off of someone who did not know or care about it's value does not mean its worth $50

So what do DVT-4's usually go for in your personal opinion? I haven't seen one being sold for under $200 and that's with seals broken. the fact that this has not been modded or messed with makes this more valuable in my opinion, and in the opinion of someone who collects something like this.

the extra ram enables you to debug code 'on the fly' and run neighborhood while playing unreleased games. alot of unreleased games will not work on a softmodded xbox. If you're in to computer science this would make an interesting piece to have. You can easily create your own homebrews for the Xbox the way they were meant to be made.

$50? what a joke... and "no known unreleased items" as a general statement things that are unreleased are not known until they ARE released.

Isn't that what you paid for it?

As for its value, I'm not an expert so I don't want to offer an opinion, Ive been out of the "scene" for a long time. A lot of unreleased games WILL run on a soft or hard modded xbox, and "normal" xbox can have their RAM upgraded. You do realize most debug XBOXs cant even run retail games right?  I said best of luck with the eBay auction, and I'll just leave it at that.

Yesterday I wanted more information about it. I did not under appreciate its value. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. I don't really understand your hostility towards me but okay thanks.

Sorry for my hostility, I have done research on it's value and I see there are alot of people generally interested in paying a high price for these. I got it for that much but that doesn't mean its worth that much, if you found a $3000 painting at a garage sale and bought it for $20 then found out it's worth $3000 would you sell it for $20 because "well, thats what i got it for"? no you would not.  Fact of the matter is I think it's an interesting piece to have and I know Xbox's can be upgraded to work as a debug but people are genuinely interested in owning a debug kit xbox and not an "xbox with modified ram that can run debug games". By nature they cannot run retail games, there is an easy fix for this that preserves the debug nature of the kit while allowing you to play retail games.

Why not splash out the $5 on an AV cable and see what's on that thing?

I actually ordered it already :) it comes in about a week. I just wanted to see if anyone's interested and I would gladly sell for a reasonable price to someone who wants it. Just because I really don't have a use for it right now doesn't mean nobody else does!

for everyone saying it isn't worth the price... http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?48644-Xbox-%28Original%29-Debug-Kit a quick Google search brought this up.
and this: http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1484

I could keep going.

I have changed the price to $200 firm

You should, find me a thread that wasn't closed in 2013.  I think you'll be lucky to get $150 shipped.  As for your painting analogy, I can alter it a bit. If I bought the painting for $20 and was told it was worth 30 grand later, and found old web searches saying it was worth 30 grand ; but no one would give me 30 grand for it......... then it ain't worth 30 grand.

I understand now this forum is not the right place to post this kind of stuff. It seems people who are into creating arcades have little to no interest in debug consoles. Still if anyone is interested please shoot me a reply. I would like to add if you're not interested please don't post a reply at all. this thread has become extremely pointless with all the ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- that has been posted inside of it....

Fuel, the one by firetoad? That started off as Everglade Rush . Tragic story about Fuel is Firetoad had it done in 2006, it just needed minor bug fixing and some polish; their publisher made them redo the menu structure and all the work was done just in time for microsoft to kill the xbox in 2007 (new menu structure was done in feb 2007, xbox was discontinued in march of 2007). Fuel wasn't released (the Codemasters game wasn't the same) but the un-relesed game has been leaked already.

grats on making "$450"

This thread is great, I've gotten some good laughs reading the back and forth.

Mods can close this thread, Xbox sold for $500 :) btw it did have an unreleased game on it called FUEL.

I hope for your sake your buyer doesn't read this thread, since you screwed him/her out of the additional $300 over your asking price of $200.

Classy.

So I've held off on commenting in this thread but to be honest I don't see that the buyer at $500 (if there was one) got "screwed" as everybody seems to put it.

If the buyer felt it was worth $500 and was willing to pay it then how did he get screwed? The fact that the seller originally got it for $50 is irrelevant.

So if you were at a garage sale this summer and picked up something for $1 that you found out was worth $100 later and sold it did you just screw the buyer out of $99? No you didn't.

Just my .02

There wasn't a buyer at $500 , he probably got 100 or 150 and is trying to save face. That being said, if he implied to any potential buyers that this thing was worth $500 and happened to get that much, then yeah he screwed over a buyer.

By your logic, con-men and people running pyramid schemes are totally in the right because the people they dupe are getting their perceived value.

Yeah I guess whatever the market will bear is how much it's worth.

I bought an Oculus Rift development kit...sold it on ebay for ~2x what I originally bought it for... JUST before the announcement of the DK2 sales starting.

Somebody wanted it, I was finished with it, that's what the market was for them. (since Oculus stopped sale of the original DK's several months prior).

guess i'm a jackass now.

Honestly I think some of these people can't read. THIS XBOX HAD A KNOWN UNRELEASED GAME ON IT! A game the buyer was very interested in purchasing. It was sold on a forum geared towards these unreleased games. That's it that's all. Some of you missed out at $200 and now you're but hurt because it sold for $500. Also It seems Malenko is the one trying to "save face" after he made a complete ass out of himself by flaming a sale thread he was never truly interested in. Nobody asked for your criticism so go ___ yourself :D

Regardless I don't need to save face :P I did not rip this person off. Trust me he is much more experienced in buying debug kits than anyone on this forum :)

I love how you're so confident about things you know nothing about. That really shows how intelligent you are   :applaud: Also, people running a pyramid scheme are not selling a tangible product worth anything, but the idea that they can make more money (A SCAM). The reason why pyramid schemes are illegal is because the people DO NOT receive anything of value. If anything the argument would be that I ripped off the guy I bought it from... Which I didn't because I myself did not know what it was worth when I purchased it.

I do not appreciate you trying to tarnish my name by labeling me a "scammer" without any proof.

Mostly I am pissed about the lack of maturity displayed in this thread. I was constantly attacked and called a scammer. I was told there are no known unreleased games. Basically you all decided to make jugements and claims with no proof. Turns out there are MANY MANY MANY known unreleased games... Check out assemblergames forum and you'll see. In addition the Xbox contained the unreleased game FUEL.

here is a video of me playing the game:

here is the discussion about the game: https://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?56065-Original-Xbox-Fuel/page2

You can probably figure out who the buyer is and feel free to message him and tell him I "scammed" him LOL especially after he's saying he will buy it for the game and sell it for $200

Lastly is there not a moderator on this forum that closes a for sale thread where nothing is actually for sale?? Or is this forum for dick mesuring competitions and flaming?

edit:
Fuel, the one by firetoad? That started off as Everglade Rush . Tragic story about Fuel is Firetoad had it done in 2006, it just needed minor bug fixing and some polish; their publisher made them redo the menu structure and all the work was done just in time for microsoft to kill the xbox in 2007 (new menu structure was done in feb 2007, xbox was discontinued in march of 2007). Fuel wasn't released (the Codemasters game wasn't the same) but the un-relesed game has been leaked already.

grats on making "$450"
Could you please link to PROOF that the un-released game has been leaked? By YOUR logic stock brokers are ripping off everyone by not selling stocks for the same price they buy them for.... Actually, everything is a scam! Why buy a phone for $1000 when it cost them less than a hundred to make. I'm sorry you have such quarrels with capitalism.

edit: this is 500 Canadian, it's less when you convert to USD

I do not need to prove anything. I want this thread closed because it is pointless and the item in question is sold. I don't need anyone to believe the price, that is fine. If you bothered to check the proof I posted your question would be answered.

No one had posted in this thread in two days. The best way to stop people from posting in it is to stop posting in it.

No, we do not generally lock a thread after a sale is done. Discussions post sale are acceptable. I do request people remember the rules of decorum. That doesn't mean people cannot disagree or discuss whether or not a sale was predatory, but I do strongly request people do so with tact and courtesy.

Thanks!

Again, making judgements without proof. I did not overcharge. How do you know I wasn't offered that much? What credentials could you possibly have to decide what can be sold for how much. I also feel you did not check the proof I posted. You simply are mad because you realize you were being a jerk to someone who was not trying to rip anyone off, and now you want to justify your actions... I'm pretty new to these forums but I did make sure to check the rules before posting and I think you should check those out :)

No thread poisoning.  Thread poisoning occurs when a person comes into a thread and posts something contrary to the spirit/intent of the thread.

...

These don't mean you can't debate the merits of something for sale, build vs buying, etc... Telling someone they're on crack and berating them for ripping off the public because you can do it yourself for less, however, goes against the grain of how this forum runs.

Example:  Dude, you're a crook!  $1000 for an arcade cab?  I built my own for $25! ... Bad
Example:  The link you posted for the 27" monitor for $400 is more expensive than this link for the same thing for $350... OK

Overall I believe I was straight up with what I got it for and what I'm selling it for. The fact that I was selling it for $200 BEFORE we realized it has an unreleased game on it is irrelevant. The guy who purchased did not purchase for the debug kit I was selling on here but what was on it.

You missed the bottom line of that rule posting.

Don't be afraid to help each other avoid getting ripped off, but be polite about it please.  Thanks!

Determining what is or isn't thread poisoning is a subjective thing, and I've never particularly liked this rule, but it's in place because of popular demand. I think polite went out the window in this thread sadly, however this thread did not cross my personal threshold for this rule.

I personally don't have a beef with someone getting as much as they can for something they're selling, if they are upfront and honest with the would-be-buyer.

I'll try to be succinct.

Re: calling you a scammer
I never said you did anything wrong, please re-read what I typed in context. I said  "if he implied.....", which you did not.

Re: Value of XBOX
Your link is proof of how accurate my assessment in value was, I estimated $200 ; which is what the person you bought it from said it was worth. He was willing to pay more just for that game, I was not. I have played the game before, I remember the menu music from your video. Your build definitely looked less buggy than the one I remember playing. I was huge into the XBOX scene years ago, I was privy to a ton of not publicly released things.

Re: What I offered you
I never offered you $50, I was going to offer $200 (USD, which is about 1/2 of what you sold it for) and split shipping. I changed my mind based on your attitude. I'm sure you don't mind since you sold the xbox for more than your asking price.
The only piece of software worth $300 or more to me is Photoshop. Personally, I cant justify what you buyer did spend; mortgage payments really put a damper on fun money.

As for immaturity, I do not feel I demonstrated any. I can admit I was wrong when I said you didn't sell it for $500 (which at the time I didnt know was Canadian dollars) but I don't see how I was immature in my delivery of said statement. You however demonstrated it en mass. Rants about how I called you a scammer, was trying to tarnish your reputation, etc. I was illustrating what "perceived value is" not what a scam is, and instead of being mature and asking for clarification or even asking if I was calling you a scammer, you just ran with it.

The best way to let a thread die is to not post in it anymore. One of my earliest replies said "and I'll leave it at that"; but you proceeded to prod me for retorts. I was merely obliging your request, however this will be my last in this thread.

If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.
