Powering LED's from IPAC

Hey there,

I have 4 LED Nova Gem coin lights that I want to light up in my cab. Everyone generally hacks into their computer power supply to get the juice to light up their LED's but can I power them through my IPAC?

Or maybe use a Groovy Game Gear Switching Power Supply?

Again it is just to light up 4 LED's, thats it. the Power Requirements are : 100ma @ 5v DC Per button.

That's because it's the easiest, least complicated way to do it.

With 5v wall warts everywhere, it's way easier to put in a power supply just for the LED's. Not only that, but I've had to pull out my ipacs over the years to do maintenance (like wires that got loose, or adding a button, etc) and I'm glad I didn't have wires holding down some LED's. It really costs nothing to use an old wall charger from a old iphone or blackberry or whatever.

Unless you have the Ultimate I/O I dont think you will be able to. with an ipac. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Actually I just looked at the pics on their site and in the middle of the i-pac I see 2 prongs that have 5v next to them. Guessing thats 5v out? Maybe try there but I was unable to find any docs supporting the output.

So do you just not have a power supply, or are you not sure what wires or how to splice them in, or just dont want to touch the power supply?

Actually I was just looking for the easiest way to do it. I actually have a power supply I bought from groovy game gear and I also have a usb power tap cable from them as well.

I just wanted to avoid opening up the computer power supply. I'll prob just use my power supply.

I dont remember needing to open anything. On my PC power supply I just snipped the Red and Black wires on the Molex  connector. Then just attached them to the daisy chains to the buttons.

400mA is actually quite high for drawing from a USB device, so it would be best to use a PC power supply molex as already mentioned.
