Moving mounted monitor?
« on: January 29, 2015, 06:40:42 am »
So this isn't strictly arcade cabinet related, though I could certainly see it being used in some cabinet setups so I figure i'd ask here (plus you guys were the first bunch I could think of asking for this sort of thing).

Basically I have a headless server set up in my living which is in the bottom right hole of a set of IKEA Expedit shelving. Now and again I need to attach a monitor to it so I can perform backups and general CLI stuff that I can't do remotely.

I have a VGA 4:3 monitor that fits perfectly into one of the square holes above the server, and it occurs to me that I could mount that monitor inside the hole on some sort of track so that I can pull the monitor out, either by hand or at the press of a button, whenever I need to directly access my server, instead of having to manually set it up each time on the floor.

Now, woodworking I've done a bit of since I built my cabinet last year - but electronics and moving parts I'm not that clued up on. What would be the best way to set up this sort of thing, and where should I look for parts? I'm in the UK so ideally shops in my country would be best.

Thanks in advance!
