Ground Wire on Happ Trackball
« on: January 23, 2015, 10:40:01 am »
Hi everyone,

I have two quick questions about the grounds on the 3" Happ trackball that I have.  The wiring harnesses have been left to figure a few things out on my own.

First Question: Can I use the common ground daisy chain (that goes from button to button) for the two ground wires coming off the optic boards or do these need their own ground wire run?

Second Question: Where should the earth ground be connected? I am assuming these are to prevent the build up of static electricity in the trackball but I don't know where I should run that wire to.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Search function works pretty good around here. If you've got a question, chances are it has been asked and answered before.

But to answer your questions...
1. Ground should be connected to ground.
2. Earth ground should be connected to earth ground.

+1 on above.

All of the metal parts in your cabinet should share the earth ground.  So if you have a metal control panel you should already have a post to attach the ground wire to.  If you do not then you need to carry that down to the main earth ground coming in to your cabinet; assuming you have one.

No need to apologize. If you have questions, by all means ask. But it pays to do a little digging here and there, you'll be amazed at all the stuff you'll learn about that you weren't even aware of, all in the process of trying to find an answer to your original question. Most of the time, those little hints and tips are pure gold.
