Stick upgrade
« on: January 15, 2015, 06:11:09 am »
Hi there, I'm new with arcade sticks.

I ordered the stick below and was hoping I can exchange the stick and buttons with Sanwa ones. Is that possible? I think it will fit, but will it work as well?

Stick I ordered: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Acrylic-panel-rocker-arcade-rocker-computer-arcade/1201271947.html

Sanwa stick I want to throw in: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ORIGINAL-SANWA-JLF-TP-8YT-JOYSTICK-FOR-ARCADE-GAME-1-RED-BALL-TOP-HANDLE-/181204034505?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a309a23c9

I think the screw holes line up:

If it doesn't fit, the top panel looks like it is just a flat peice of acrylic with holes to screw down and secure. Should be very easy to replicate if need be.

Keep in mind that e-Bay listing is coming from China, so it might a few weeks to get to you.

Have you checked out the same joystick here?  http://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-jlf-tp-8yt-joystick/

You can use your existing ball top on it (screws on and off) but if you want a new ball top it will be an additional $2.95 - But you can choose whatever color you want.  They are located in the continental US (PA on the East Coast).

Thanks for the replies. It looks like there is nothing technically challenging to this upgrade. If I understand it correctly the sticks and buttons just have switches and no other electronics in them. As for the wiring, the sanwa wires are super simple. Just 4 directions and a ground. I like how simple this arcade stuff is!

As for the focusattack link, thanks for thinking along, but I am in Holland and shipping from the US is there 22 usd. I think I'll get them from https://www.akishop.jp/ or ebay.

I scaled the two blueprints on top of each other and they seem to fit alright. I will just makes some extra holes in the sanwa plate if it doesn't:

There are quite a few vendors in Europe, too. One of them happens to be in The Netherlands:
