Popeye Bootleg PCB - Difference from original?
« on: January 13, 2015, 06:54:27 am »
I just bought myself a Popeye PCB from ebay. This is the 1 PCB bootleg version. Does anyone know the excact differences gameplay-wise, if any, between the original and the bootleg version?

I found one video, but unfortunately it wasn't of game play.  So if you do find a difference record a video and post it to youtube please.

I did find this page though

UPDATES

REVISION D (used on most Popeye machines) :
information First level has a black background.
information Default high score is 32,600.
information First nickname on the default high-score table is GET.
information Spinach can only be used once per level, and it is not restored after you lose a life.
information The ladder at the center of the first level can only be used to go down.
information Extra Life dip-switch can be set at 40,000, 60,000, 80,000, or None. The default is 40,000, meaning you get an extra life at 40,000 points.

REVISION F (designed especially for novice players) :
information First level has a colored background.
information Default high-score is smaller than on Revision D : 25,600.
information First nickname on the default high-score table is KAC.
information Spinach is restored after you lose a life.
information The ladder at the center of the first level can be used to go up or down.
information Extra Life dip-switch can be set at 20,000, 30,000, 50,000, or None, with 20,000 as the default.

BOOTLEG :

According to this one website that acknowledges the bootleg, there isn't much of a difference.

See if Haruman pipes in or PM him.  He was selling an original a few years ago.  He may know of any differences.

There are a couple of roms for the bootleg versions. Maybe try playing one of those on MAME and see if anything different sticks out?

Of course!
Thanks!
