Gotta ask a dumb question because I'm very ignorant about the neogeo hardware scene.  Is there a good reason to get the neosd over a standard multi cart?  I know the mvs/aes doesn't have a lot of games and there isn't a ton of homebrew either.

Well the multi cart is poor at best, They are mostly bad roms and hacks and many of them have glitches (sound and visual).

As for the neo Library its actually quite large but most of the games people have never heard of or dont like.

I think people just think of the neo as a fighters console with KOF, GMOTW etc.

As for the homebrew there is a bit but admittedly not a huge amount.
Ngdev team have released a few titles including the new Krout Buster (which looks amazing) but other than them I dont know of any other creators.

Thanks for the info.  I've been thinking of getting into neogeo but I haven't looked into it much.  I just checked and I can get a working mvs for 50 bucks on ebay and I have a $10 coupon burning a hole in my pocket.  I've always wanted to build a super gun, so maybe now is the time.  I'd like to do aes, but it's just too rich for my blood.

Yeah there are definitely sleepers in the library, but if I'm being honest with myself I'm sure I'd just play the various metal slugs 90% of the time.

I got the 120-in-1 cart and I havenít had much issues with it so far. Itís got most of the games Iím into, including Twinkle Star Sprites, which a few of these Multicarts donít have. It doesnít have Windjammers though, which is a big deal. Viewpoint also. :(

Yeah, itís got some hacked games alongside the non-hacked versions. But the proper versions all seem fine. I havenít noticed anything weird. Itís cheap too. I think I paid $80 for it when it was first released.

Eventually Iíll get the NeoSD or Darksoft MultiMVS, but theyíre so damn expensive. Iím more interested in the Multi CPS1 and Sega System16B Multi that Iím saving up for now. The 120-in-1 is fine for me right now.

Our favorite oriental website has a few different ones... 161 in 1 but also 120 in 1 and 150 in 1.  The other two don't have their complete gamelists posted so I don't have a clue if they are better or worse.

Here's a comparison guide I googled for. https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/MVS_Multicart

Seems like a pretty good outline of the games lists between the different carts.

So if you are buying in I will attempt to expand a little :p

So yeah Neo Geo is expensive to buy into.
The NGCD is the cheapest way into it and the AES is the most expensive with the MVS sat in the middle.

That being said some games can be picked up for the MVS at reasonable prices.
I got Metal Slug for £40 and Puzz Bob for £20 which I later found out was a hack job but it works so ya know....
But yeah watch out for bootlegs MVS has lots!!

The multi carts are playable but they do have issues.
I can only comment on the 161 as that is the only one I have.
They seem to be hit and miss regarding how good the one you get will be.
Mine has a graphical glitch in the top corner and occasional sound glitches but overall nothing to major really everything I have tried on it is playable but the glitch in the corner does my head in!

I have managed to get a photo so you can see:

It basically flashes doing that, Originally I thought it was my TV but its not present with anything else so its defo the cart.

But I have heard of people having games freeze and other odd problems.

Regarding games apart from Slug and the main fighters some of my faves worth checking out are Neo Bomberman, Super Dodgeball, Top Hunter and Mutation Nation.

Theres obv many others but those are some of my personal faves :)

Oh and if you get a MVS be sure to get a Unibios for it! They are inexpensive but worth every penny!!

I'm gonna have to think on this one.  The 161 doesn't have a few of my favorite games in it like Waku Waku 7 and Super Spy.  It looks like the 138 in 1 actually has the most unique games... but it has compatibility issues and is essentially a flash cart.  It's a bit more expensive too....

Still think it'd be fun to do a super gun though.... I've got enough parts lying around to do it... I'd just need a scart connector for my up scaler and some sort of case to put it in.

Thanks for the help guys.

Anytime dude.

I really want to build a supergun.

I brought my CMVS though, I would link the company but I dont think they are in business anymore which is a shame tbh because its pretty good.

Yeah the 161 can be hit or miss as it's one of the older carts to have come out. The 120 is one of the newer versions, which is why i opted for it when it was released, and doesn't have this issue at all. It's practically perfect, but just lacking a bunch of the games.

I have been wanting to build a MVS wall mounted skinny cab for a while. Maybe after I get my DK restore done this summer.

Any way, I added the Terraonion products to the list on the first post. Including the PC engine and AES/MVE carts.

Good stuff!

They are bringing some more goodies out soon but they have not announced what it will be yet!

The prices on mvs motherboards are too cheap right now.  I think I see a supergun build in my future, just for the hell of it.
