Bartop Speaker Wire - Gauge?
« on: November 03, 2014, 10:42:54 am »
Hi Guys,

Pulled the trigger on this bartop speaker kit, however, it doesn't come with speaker wire.

What gauge/wire should I use with this?

Thanks so much!

I would keep it simple and use the same wires that are used on the joysticks and buttons.  (18 - 22 gauge).  Stranded doorbell wire (20 gauge) works great for this and is pretty cheap at your local hardware store.

If you have Radio Shack in your area, they have speaker wire, but RS tends to be a bit pricey on their stuff.
As delusional29 said, it don't have to be big wire, small gauge will work.

Another place to look is a local overstock, or "dollar" store.  They often have 25 ft lengths of 2-conductor, 18-20ga speaker wire.  If they have it in your area, it's tough to beat the price.

Thanks everyone!

I have one out of 2 speakers wired so far. Just tested it with a YouTube video of Super Mario Bros and I have a stupid grin on my face.

As someone who didn't grow up playing arcades -- born in the early 80s -- this has been one of the most fulfilling and educational experiences of my life. Thanks for all the help!
