Diamond Plate as a kickplate
« on: October 07, 2014, 09:52:30 pm »
Was thinking of spray painting a metal diamond sheet to use as a kick plate, but can't visualize whether it will look fine. I was hoping to see some pics of cabs that might have incorporated this idea, but can't find any.

Thoughts?

Most of the time, diamond plate just gets left as shiny silver.  Looks fine.

Agreed, I don't think I'd paint diamond plate.
Looks best polished.

Instead of painting it, there are sources like this place that have different color diamond plate like red and black.

Or if you want funky colors, call around regarding anodizing.  You can get almost any color you want that way and it looks top notch!

If you get diamond plate and want it to keep shiny you have to clear coat it.

As its called a kick-plate, its purpose is to get kicked ;D This will probably mess up your paint job, so either buy it colored/anodized, or just leave it all shiny and silvery. I mean what's not to like about this:

left it shiny and screwed it in with silver lath screws.   I dont think painting it would look right.

I got my kick plate from www.tread-ware.com

It was a diamond kick plate baseboard.  It was very inexpensive too.  It appears something is up with their website right now though.  The website works fine now, must've been an issue with my phone.

Check them out.

i really want to place a 7x32" sheet of black tread plate on my FLYNN's build, but not i'm on the fence. that tread-ware place looks decently priced.  I'd also say if you want black go anodized. even a good coat of tremclad is gonna take a beating. Might be worth it if you want a worn look though...  hmmm, hammered black...
