Ultimarc Aimtrak Calibration Problems
« on: May 14, 2014, 12:49:07 pm »
I just purchased two of them and when I calibrate them the mouse cursor is on point and is calibrated fine, but when I open up Area 51, time crisis, etc, pretty much any shooter in MAME, the crosshairs are a few inches off where they were just on my desktop screen. They also jut across and not smooth like they do on the desktop screen. Anyone know how to fix this? :banghead:

I have a BenQ MLG LED monitor and windows 7 professional 64 bit

Also, another issue I'm having is the gun doesn't reload when I shoot off screen. I have shoot offscreen checked in the controller settings in MAME, do I need to set it individually in the game as well hitting the tab key, and if so, where? Cause I don't see it.

Game specific info is outlined in section 1.2 of the manual. http://ultimarc.com/AimTrak%20Setup%20Guide.pdf

You're not running in widescreen with the window stretched by any chance?

Well the 24" BenQ is a widescreen monitor. I have the resolution in MAME to go fullscreen. Not sure of the exact setting right now, I'll have to check when I get home.

After guns are calibrated in Windows, each game needs to be calibrated in the game's service menu.
You only need to do it once for each game.

Yup. The hardest one, to date, for me to get into the calibration menu was Sharpshooter. Worth it though.

Great, thanks.

Where is the service menu for games in MAME? Hitting the Tab key?

No.  The service menu is the one that was present on the original arcade machine.
It's all emulated in MAME.  F2 is the default to access it.
You'll be accessing the same menu that was used to calibrate the guns on the original arcade machine.

Nearly all work that way, but some older games might have a DIP switch setting instead that would be accessed through the TAB menu.
Those represent physical switches that were present on the real machine.

Like chopperthedog said, it's all covered in the instructions.

Just  be aware that some of the games are still going to be slightly inaccurate towards the edges of the screen even after in-game calibration - Point Blank/Gun Bullet is a good example. Apparently the emulation driver for those games is not entirely accurate in terms of lightgun positioning. You adapt to it pretty quickly, but at first it'll be noticeable.

turn the cursor on for a while to get a feel in each game and make sure you're good with the calibration  . . . .  - then, be a man and turn it off.
