I decided to build something smaller.

I'll  will  put up a PC or disassemble a laptop. is still not decided.

2 joysticks for two players. and IPAC.

here some pics:

the plane

the mother board p4

Computer disassembled

My carpenter is a tough guy  ;)

Great work in such a short time.   What type of plywood are you using?  Looks like there are a lot of layers for strength.

D101GCC board. I had tons of those things in a pile a few months ago. They run soft15khz and calamity drivers quite nicely.  :)

That is a good idea.  I've had 70/30 success using an alternate input on a TV at a Hotel.  I can see how this could come in handy.

Other thought.  From the profile drawing especially, it is reminiscent of the Atari 2600.

Well after much thought, I decided to reassemble everything and go on a shiny black formica. ::)

the side

Apart from player 1 and 2. Added up some holes for:coin, pause, tab, esc.

here is it finally...in the back i pot a vent

Yes I know these flowers look with some part of the kitchen. But the carpenter's mistake. He added that accidentally on the formica. In any case I'm going to put up a sticker so it should not bother me ...

I added another hole, button ON / OFF

and open....

meanwhile my IPAC is here.the joystick is not for this project

Now I have left the label and design ... I have not decided yet I am debating between the Amiga logo, or ghost n Goblin :dizzy:

Nice job with the top panel...  Looks much better now.

What are you using for the edges?  Is that edge banding?  It looks a little thin resulting in some white around the edges.

I see you put a vent fan in, but, where are you venting from?  You need an intake hole where you can draw air into the case, preferably across your motherboard.

I finally cleared some time, children, My mother in law >:D

I decided to design the machine in the style of Ghostn Goblin. My dilemma was between that or the AMIGA :P But in the end I decided to stay with the Ghostn Goblin.

the panel

or this...

head

top

side a

side b

the AMIGA will have to wait to my next project :-\

so that it. This week I have to go to print it.

Trying to assemble the screws I ordered from ULTIMARC http://www.ultimarc.com/controls.html#mountingkits

I could not screw the bracket  (hex key) to the end ???

Need to dismantle them, and reassemble.

The wide, flat threads on those threaded inserts slice into the MDF.

They can't be removed and reiinserted without pulping the MDF. :badmood:

You only get one shot at it -- if you mess up, you'll need to re-make the whole piece.

IIRC someone (maybe rablack97?) used a machine screw and nuts in a drill press (turned by hand, of course) to keep the inserts straight vertical while inserting them.

Scott

EDIT: Found it.  Rodney posted the video below in his DIY acrylic bender thread.

NOTE: The inserts shown in the video are for normal wood, not the kind used for MDF -- totally different thread geometry, but the insertion process is the same.

Could probably redrill the hole larger to remove the blowout - fill with Bondo\wood filler\mixture of wood glue and MDF Sawdust\ or similar - let dry completely and sand then start over rather than re-making from scratch !

if the threaded inserts are working, no need to re-do them -- I thought you said they weren't properly mounted and planned to dismantle  and reassemble them..

The threaded inserts are definitely a better choice than wood screws because the threaded inserts allow you to remove the machine screws holding the joystick without stripping out the MDF.

Forgot to mention that you do get a second chance with the inserts if you can turn the mounting plate/joystick 90 degrees.   ;D

Just take your time and do it right.

Regular wood screws will cause problems if you ever have to remove a joystick and they are more likely to work loose just from normal gameplay.  :(

i realy like the graphics. the white sides gives it a tech look. waiting to see it with controlles colors. i also really like the wood frame - it looks very strong, also think the upper panel should have been on top for larger area, but mabee it would not be so strong.
good work man - i love you enthusiasem

Nah, I've used those inserts in MDF without issue. But yes, once they're in, don't take them out.

Updating...

At last I managed to screw the  until the end...I hooked one joystick. Strong and steady as steel.

Meanwhile, I have another shipment arrived. Among others PCB Mounting Feet

start working on the motherborad and the hard disk

zoom in...

Now I have a little problem. I need to place the power supply.

I drilled two small holes, and I'm afraid they touch at the inside, and can shorten. :-\

Any ideas how I mounting the power supply. Without to need screw?

Industrial strength Velcro strips work well. -- or since you have the holes drilled and the bracket you could use a plastic zip tie long enough to feed through the holes and zip tight.

Zip tie Pic : (currently $2.50 per 100 @ harbor freight) -- Just run it through the bracket top hole into the pSU top hole out the bottom hole and through the bracket bottom hole - feed through the end and pull tight - should have plenty of strength to hold the PSU in place

I decided at the end to put shorter screws.

Screws do not touch anything. And i can close and put the power supply.
