I need some suggestions on adhering wood and acrylic
« on: March 22, 2014, 09:54:42 pm »
Hi everyone. I am having a tough time trying to figure out how to go about this. Basically I have an LCD screen mounted to the wood bezel that I want to mount to a sheet of acrylic. I am planning on being able to manually rotate the screen so the whole thing will pop out and you rotate it and pop it back in. I've seen some info about epoxy adhesive and it sounds like it might do the trick. BUT now I want to put some art work between the wood and the acrylic. I do not want to put in screws or bolts where you would see them as it would take away from it. I am thinking about maybe putting the artwork on top of the plexi but I am thinking it might look cheesy that way. How does everyone else do it?  ???

There are a lot of decorative screws out there for mounting glass to wood.
Think baseball cards mounted for display under plexi-glass.
You don't even notice the tiny studs they use on the corners.

Or, you can mount the the plexi to the wood with some corner bead molding on the edges.

I second this approach. I have used the bits for FRP panels mostly because they are just so cheap ($3 for 8' lengths.) Just make sure you paint it with something if you want white - they discolour over time.
