3d cabinet front end
« on: January 18, 2014, 12:01:22 am »
Is there a Mame front end out there that is basically just 3d cabinets?  I know about the 3d arcade fe, but i want one where you just spin the trackball left and right, and the cabinets go by one by one.  You stop on a cabinet and a video snap plays on the virtual screen...from there you can launch the game. Seems simple enough?

Try Gameex. http://www.gameex.com/Download/Addons,utilitiesandmedia.aspx
It's highly customizable and features such an option to show 3D Arcade cabinets.

You really should be able to do that in most frontends.
It's just a matter of how you set it up.

Currently i have Maximus Arcade.  The game lists all look the same.  Instead of a game list, where you roll the trackball up and down to find games, i just want 100 or so cabinets to scroll thru.

Hmmmm.  It seems 3d arcade does have a theme that does this...

Yes, it does.  It is a very flexible FE, just is complicated to setup.
Never met a game I won't keep.

In most front ends, it might be tough to do the exactly as described because the "screen" in the cabinet pictures isn't in exactly the same place on all cabinet pictures. I've seen some Mala layouts where there's a "cabinet" that contains the marquee image, maybe some sideart, the game name, and video, but the cabinet is just a static image in the background that Mala overlays the other elements onto.

3dFE is probably your best bet, but rpgposer is right, it's a tough nut to crack, setup wise. I gave up and decided on Mala.

I got a good start on it this weekend...it will take awhile to get everything in place with all the movies, cabinets, marquees needed.  Plus I'm creating the favorites list from scratch.  This will take awhile.
