I've got a copy of DOS mame 36 with all the nags/error messages removed if you'd like a copy. Send me a private message if you want it and I'll hook you up. Even though forum sponsors openly sell illegal artwork and multiboards, and our resident MAME dev has admitted that the MAME license is complete BS, it's frowned upon to post links openly.

Hmm we don't appear to have a thumbs up button other wise I would give you one. It really is a strange hobby as far as what people find OK and what they frown upon after pirating 50 gigs of illegal games.

I'm not sure what your point is supposed to be here. Downloading roms is also illegal and you also can't post links to roms here. Mame is NOT illegal, so we try to comply to the license agreement out of sheer respect and nothing more.
Although I've often questioned the legality of reproducing artwork (it seems to be in a gray area due to many of the copyrights expiring) I don't think anyone is openly selling illegal multi-boards. If they are they should be banned, not so much for the legality of it, but for putting out an inferior product.

Also you guys seem to be confused. Many of the rules on this site in regards to what you can post are done for legal reasons, aka lets not get Saint, sued or violate his ISPs license agreement and have the site pulled.
To answer your question as simply as possible mame started requiring a beefy processor to run when it got better. I've got .36 on an old gorf because I just can't justify fixing the boards atm and I'll tell you flat out. .36/.37 are fine until you use a modern build and realize how crappy it is by comparison. At that point the sega drivers are still iffy, I don't think cps2 games have been added and even games as "classic" as pac-man and gorf have emulation issues. Now the two things aren't directly related, but it's worth noting that despite what the nay-sayers are spewing, newer versions of mame generally are noticeably better.
I just don't get people not caring about accuracy. Isn't the whole point to play the original arcade games? If you don't care about that then pick up some of those tv-plug-in-play games. They aren't even close to the originals, but they look and play sort of the same so that's good enough by that logic.
